help!!STEERING WHEEl's shaking
 

well as you guys know, i just got my 03 evo in a month. but i didn't notice the steering wheel shakes so bad untill couple weeks later. I bought this car because when i first saw it i was hooked cause it's black. i think the previous owner must have ****ed this alighment up or something there'are couple scratchs on the wheels and it might be the wheel bent or off al ightment. how could I solve this problem because at low speed then it's oki but when i reach up to high speed it shakes so much. it's not smooth anymore.

can I change the front wheels to the back and back to the front? if the wheels are bent? or can it be tires balance?

Get your tires balanced first, the shop will be able to tell you if the rim is bent. If the rims are not bent and the tires are balanced, then look into an alignment.

Does it just do it under med to hard braking or is it all the time? There are tons of posts about vibration when braking. Most end up being a wheel out of balance. Is the car lowered? It could be uneven wear.

I would say go get the wheels rotated and balanced. And go from there. If you still have trouble an alignment might be in your future. I hope for your sake it isn't a bad rotor causing it.

99% chance it's just the alignment.

99% chance its the balance. The wheels are agressively cambered from factory, so the tires are always being shaved on the inside, therefore, throwing it off balance. I have a lifetime balancing plan with my tire shop cuz I have to balance it so often.

I got my Evo brand new and there was steering shake, tire balance corrected the problem. Check tire balance and wheel bent first, if not fix then go alignment

it's just when i go up to high speed the stearing wheel shakes that's all.
it doesn't shake whenever i make a brake...

It's definately your allignment. I had an Dodge Intrepid R/T before the EVO and the car shook like hell while braking. Cause, warped rotors. Your situation is similar to some I had with earlier vehicles and it was just allignment.

is it around 55 to 60 if it is its a classic case of mis-balanced tires (ex. hitting a curb) if its lower than 55 than its a real bad mis-balanced tire(s) if its over 55 its probably a bad alignment always start at the cheapest solution a tire balance and the alignment couldent hurt

Yea that sounds right, if it not during braking then it should either be balancing or alingment...post results when you get it fixed

PPL. DONT CAUSE THIS GUY TO HAVE A HEARTATTACK! IF IT DOES IT DURING BRAKING, ITS BECAUSE THE PADS WERENT BROKEN IN PROPERLY. OR THERE IS PAD DEPOSITS ON UR ROTORS. RE-BED OR GET THEM TURNED. IF IT HAPPENS DURING NORMAL DRIVING ITS UR ALIGNMENT. CHECK UR BALANCING OF UR WHEELS OR GET A ALIGNMENT. START CHEAP AND WORK 2 EXPENSIVE! :thumbup:
