For those of you hitting low 12’s

Did you run that with the stock clutch? With race gas or pump? Last weekend I went to the track with the Evo for the first time and no matter what I did, I was only able to pull a best of 14.07@101.93. This was done on stock clutch with 21,500 miles on 92 oct + a 32 oz can of Torco Fuel accelerator additive. I don’t really feel the clutch slipping but it seems it’s not able to put down the power to the wheels. I’m going to put in an after market clutch and go at it again next month hopefully my time will improve. Here are my mods:

BR 660 injectors
255 fuel pump
246i/272e cams
BR MBC@22psi
BR upper intercooler pipe
Custom street tune by Dynoflash
HKS RS intake
BR Turbo back with highflow cat

I think you need a little more practice, but it's also possible that something is wrong with your car, possibly a boost leak, your MPH are way to low for your mods. Most of the time I like to put most of the blame on the driver, but in your case there probably is something wrong with your EVO, your way down on power, Cams, TBE, and Flash, and only trapping 101mph, something is wrong.

yah, i ran 117mph on the stock clutch with very similar mods to yours....although, its was on vp 110.

13.1@104 - all stock on 93oct
12.6@107 - cat-back/safc/mbc - stock clutch on 93oct
12.2@111 - cat-back/safc/mbc - stock clutch on 93/104 oct mix

The stock clutch doesn't stop Evos from going low 12s, on your mods. It doesn't stop us from 13 flat in stock form. I think the mileage on your clutch may be causing issues even if you don't feel it slipping. That, or you're not launching and have 2.5 60's.

Hey I think its just about the launch. Also just need some track practice. Maybe next time we can both go out together. Your trap speed is low. Was this at rockfalls?

Stinkapuss Aug 31, 2005 08:44 AM

12.21 @ 115 with a beat up stock clutch, restrictor pill still in,93 & 104 octane mix.

Evil_1 Aug 31, 2005 10:09 AM

Well...my R/t = .125 and 60' = 2.20 which is not the greatest but I would think even at that 2.20, I should still see 13's. I was launching at 5000-5500 rmp slipping the clutch of the line, lifting foot of gas pedal b/w shifts (maybe this is part of the problem). Car just seems like it didn't have enough juice down lown to get me a good 60'. I'll have to try a bit of race gas next time.

hawjdude-yeah that was at rockfalls:)

mac74 Aug 31, 2005 10:18 AM

11.9 116mph with act clutch and hand full of mods

A 2.2 60' means you weren't launching at all. You may have started at 5000-5500 rpm but you weren't actually launching at that rpm. I'm guessing you let out the clutch, it bogged, you went slow for a second, then the car bucked and slung you forward. That kills your ET and MPH, but it shouldn't be enough to cause 14s, so there may still be other power-related issues. You absolutely do not need to powershift to get good times. Almost everyone lifts to shift, so that's a non-issue.

Don't add race gas just to mask the problem. You need to find out why your car is only hitting 14s and only 101mph the way it is now. Once you've either figured out the problem or improved enough to know that there is no problem, THEN you can add race gas or other mods without worry. If you change any variable next time you go, then you'll never know what really caused the improvement (if any).

Tell us what year of EVO you have and what your 60' times are. You should be at least below 13.5s and at least trapping 104mph.

He should be below 12.8 with pump gas and trapping higher then that with his mods unless he have a boost leak or can't drive

Evoisdream Aug 31, 2005 10:35 AM

i am in the same boat as you. my best time so far is a 13.400@101.11 w/a 1.154 r/t i know it sucks and a 1.990 60. Out of my 12 runs so far my best r/t is .346 and 60 1.933. I know i should be running at least mid 12's. But my best trap is only 102.96 and that was with the clutch slipping 3-5th. My average per all the runs is only 99.21. I launch at 4,500 mods list:
HKS Racing Suction Intake
GReddy Racing Titanium Exhaust
HKS Super Sequential Blow-Off
Valve Type 2
Helix Downpipe
Helix High Flow Cat
HKS Type R Intercooler
HKS Circle Earth System
Greddy Oil Catch Can
Apex Boost Controller(@1.55bar)
