05 5k rev limiter.

I just bought an 05 and i know that theres a rev limiter set at 5k. Even thou we cant launch past 5k, i like it because it builds boost while doing it, similar to a 2-step. I was looking at the boost gauge and it was bulding 7psi boost for lauching. I just thought i would share this with you guys.

I'm pretty bitter because my '05 doesn't have it and it's fully loaded. I was so excited for it too... :(

All 05s have it. What you do is at a stop, put the clutch in and put in 1st gear like you were to launch. Hit the gas and rev it to 5k, it wont go past 5k and you will build boost at the same time. Remember it can only be done at a stand still WITH the cluth in

SUCKS FOR LAUNCHING, at least for my sorry a$$. allways bogged on me. good luck with it tho :p

mrbkkt1 Sep 2, 2005 05:34 PM

it sucks for launching cause it is limiting revs by cutting fuel. if you lean on it all the way and launch during that split sec. it's in fuel cut, you will bog. if you catch it on that split sec it's not, it won't. i would either launch @ 4800 rpms or unplug the limiter and launch around 5500 rpms. the limiter sucks. Period.

Well i havent tried it yet bc its a new car and hasnt been broken in. How do you remove the launch limiter or raise it?

mrbkkt1 Sep 2, 2005 05:43 PM

it's the top plug on the clutch pedal. just unplug.

107 drag launches off the limiter, stock clutch, 12.0 sec 1/4 mi. Limiter works for 1.70-1.72 60' times. Smart people leave it. If you want to replace your $1200 clutch at 4000-7000 miles and drag it, then unplug it. Ask warrtalon how his clutch has fared with it unplugged= ACT clutch now.

2005's have been out for 10 months. Stutterbox is nothing new.

what's your technique for launching off the limiter for 1.7 60 fts? Seems like no one else can do it.

There are a few other threads on it already. Warrtalon and Knyght used to say the same thing. Knyght came around finally and starting having good results. Warrtalon, however is warrtalon and he did it his way and burned up his clutch. He is still a good driver however.

Off the limiter 100% throttle bring the clutch up a little until it grabs, then in a consistant steady fashion let out the clutch, but take a 0.50-0.75sec to make this motion. It feels like a two step process, one to touch and one to slip in a steady way. Dump will bog, Slip will burn. Consistancy is key. It took about 3 trips to the strip to "learn the motion". Track permitting, 1.72's are still attainable. 91.06mph in the 1/8th mile.

I only think you can do this with the 2 clutch mods (ss line and restrictor removed). I don't recommend it without these 2 mods done.

I also don't think disconnecting the limiter and launching with my method is the reason for my clutch going out. It was 100% my fault for doing 12 runs in one day with the last 3 within 5mins of each other. In the end, the clutch disk was not worn, but the PP and flywheel were mirrors...
