what's your best launch rpm?

What do you find is your best launch rpm with your evo?

5500. I cut 1.79 60 foots with that on street tires and the stock clutch.

Above 4000 cus thats when the turbo kicks. I build 4 lbs of boost around 4000 with stutterbox launch control.

Uhm, you set your stutterbox at 4k on an Evo? That would not work whatsoever...

I don't know what a stutterbox is. But I do know your turbu will not be under load uless you're un the line at 4k with foot off the clutch and your hand on the brake. Buy hey, I'm no tuner and could be wrong.

It works for me with AEM EMS.

Seriously, the best launch advice, with stock tires, clutch and power, that I've
received, and it worked great, is to hold the RPM's at about 4k, then when
you're ready to go, floor the throttle, and just when the RPM's reach 6k,
let the clutch out fast (but don't just side-step it, especially if you've removed
the restrictor). This gives the turbo some time to spool up as it's accelerating
the engine.

This gave me at least 6 non-bogging, non-clutch burning launces at autocross.
But if you let out the clutch a fraction of a second too late, or too slowly, you
*will* burn it. In my experience, you get to create that wonderful aroma
of melted friction materials only about 6 times per clutch, so be careful.

Using this technique, I got to 30,000 miles on my stock clutch, and the guy
who replaced it with an ACT was quite impressed, especially when I told him
I autocross the car. He specializes in Evo clutch replacement (good business
to be in!) and says he has yet to see one last that long.

Yes, at 6k I can't see any bogging happening but I'm afraid that launching at that rpm may leave my transfer case on the ground. I've never seen it happen but heard enough stories about shattered cases. Have you checked yours for cracks?

6K slip the clutch and off you go, I've gotten a 1.78 with stock clutch.

3-4k and slip a little, not a great launch but enough for me to pull on stock S4, M3, and STI. And with 31k miles on my 03 Evo, my stock clutch is still holding.

You can set it at 4k with the AEM EMS, but the AEM EMS doesn't make you able to launch well below the optimum RPM. If anyone tries to launch at 4k, they will not get good 60's, because they will bog, UNLESS they slip the hell out of the clutch half way through the 60', which is definitely not recommended.

I had to show off today after one of my friends slid his samari sideways. So, as he and a few other guys were standing there (I was leaving for lunch), I gave it some gas several times and held it at 4000 and dropped/gassed it. Before I new it, all 4 tires were spinning out and I was starting to drift at an angle. Let off pretty quick but boy, what a rush. These damn cars are bad S..tt

First time I ever did that. I might need some new tires seeing all 4 wheels were spinning.

4K for me is a good launch range. It's all about how you let off the clutch and give gas at the same time. Takes time. I've been driving for 17 years so I got some good experience with launching, even though I don't do it much.
