EVOs place 1st and 4th in Car and Driver's Super Four Challenge!

Congrats to HKS and Buschur Racing for their very impressive performances in Car and Driver's Super Four Challenge. What was even more impressive was that Buschur Racing placed fourth and their EVO is still on the stock turbo. HKS was also very impressive, their fastest time (102.9 seconds) was 3 seconds quicker than the 2nd place car and their EVO was only boosting 21PSI:eek: . Disappointing, was Easy Street's modified STi, place a sas 5th place and nearly 3 seconds behind Buschur Racing (109.8 seconds for Buschur Racing). The Subaru placed 5th place (AWD/RWD Class) and came into the competition with the second highest amount of money spent on mods, total cost of car and mods was a staggering $91,915 compared to 4th place Buschur Racing $52,084 and 1st place HKS $86,788. The Easy Street Subaru also claimed 450 horsepower and 420 lb/ft of torque and ran a 13.5@106MPH in the 1/4 Mile. Compare that to the 4th place Buschur Racing EVO which claimed 393HP/380TQ and ran a 12.0@116MPH. The saddest part is that the FWD and $43,153 Howell SRT-4 even ran a quicker time than the Subaru, 112.3 seconds for the SRT-4 and 112.4 for the STi. Second place went to Hondata Racing Lotus Elise and 3rd place went to Forcefed Lotus Elise.

The HKS Evo probably had one of the best drivers in the world...that is what really separated it from the Bruschur Evo...to bad for the ole Subie

Dam, ES STi needs to step there game up... that is very, very dissapointing.

Yeah, awesome results. I was also suprised at the poor numbers on the sti. Something may have been not 100%. Ditto on the srt, it is teh fastest?

What I found jaw dropping were the price lists for the mods on the fwd cars, and the times posted. Course times were ok, but not much to impress the 1/4 mile club.

I'm sure more than a few close minded gear heads chuckled at the results, until they got to the evo results. It's been said before, but properly tuned/driven evos are giant killers.

you do have to understand the setup of the event to understand the 1/4 mile times though. every car/truck present couldve ran faster, and C&D when testing a car takes in all sorts of equasions to get what becomes a mathematical 0-60 time and 1/4 mile time. the numbers these cars ran were real world, best of 5 tries, problem is after the quatermile they had to turn and run a road course, then accelerate to 140 and stop. great idea on car and drivers end. i havent even finished reading it though. just got it today.

is there a link to this or is it just in the magazine? couldn't find anything on caranddrive.com

It takes a little while until the article is published on the internet. The SRT-4 was very impressive, and should be considered one of the tops or the top FWD platform out there.

ESX cars are piles of sh*t. $91,000 and can't break a 13.5 1/4 mile. over 80% of stock STis are running faster than 13.50s in the 1/4 mile.

People can say what they want about ESX's drag car that runs 8s and 9s, but what an embarassment here for the Subaru folks. You couldn't give me an ESX car.

What's worse is that ESX sells a limited run of "performance models" through select Subaru dealerships, at the "awesome" bargain of about $55-$60k, I believe. These particular cars have been tested by magazines such as "R&T Speed," and have actually DIMINISHED the handling from that of a stock STi, and were only SLIGHTLY quicker in the 1/4 mile.

But, at least they had the balls to show up.....The next time, hopefully they show up with an F16 at a gun fight, instead of showing up with a knife at a rocket launcher fight.

Piss on ESX. {thumbdwn}

Yeah that was a great article. The HKS car was NOT running the stock turbo. I really wish they listed the specs on everything including the turbo. They said the HKS car kicked in about 4K rpm. Buscher should be very proud considering the limited mods (Keep it simple!). I'd also like to hear the whole story, behind the scenes stuff as it was hinted the third place Lotus Elise crew was quite nasty. They should have brought along a stock Evo and Elise as a benchmark as well. They've included at least one stock car in years past.

Who ever said the HKS car was running the stock turbo?

I saw this on Car and Driver Television today. The driver of thte HKS car was crazy. He said he would have had a faster time if he has some say in the tuning of the car. They also said his first time on the track he was the fastest of the lot.

I like the idea that an NA car was in the top 3 of the FWD cars if I heard it correctly.

One of the Civic Si's was NA with 300 plus hp.

Nice to see someone tune off boost for once.

Awesome...but, where are the pics?

Mr. Stock Oct 8, 2005 09:14 PM

Your post made it sound like it was still running the stock turbo with your "only 21psi" line. Wasn't very clear.
