Don't pay over sticker

I just bought a 350Z for $1,500 under sticker and my advice to you is wait a few months.
These jerk off dealers are always trying to screw us.
I have to admit that I don't know a lot about the EVO (what I've seen I like) but give it a few months and I gurantee these dealers will go for MSRP or less. The Mini Cooper and the S2000 are the cars that have probably had the longest stay over MSRP but now you see the S2000's even being discounted. I know they are limiting the amount the bring to the U.S. but you and I both know that if Mitsi can sell them they will build them.
The EVO is a hell of a car for 27K but for 35K it's a rip off.

4 months ago I visited a dealer in MO that was adding 7K to the Z and I went up to the owner and told him he was a prick and I would never do business with him again because of their mark-up. 2 weeks ago I went to a dealer in Des Moines and they had 6 on the lot and with a little hassling I got it for $1,500 under sticker. During this wait I also got the chance to see what issues the Z had, model I wanted, color, etc. It was tough waiting but I would feel like a big idiot if I would have paid over sticker.

Your forgetting that fast and furious 2 would be out at around the same time.

evofan@scorp's Mar 14, 2003 11:47 PM

Agreed. I want my EVO so bad... but I can wait for a better price.
Best deal I've found is 5k above msrp. Victorville :mitsu: is selling them for 10k firm. The sad thing is people will pay that just to have the first EVO in town.

Evilution Mar 14, 2003 11:52 PM

I agree with what you're saying except that the Evo is a rip off at $35K. Although I don't think anyone should pay that amount I could justify paying $35K for an Evo as opposed to say a 350Z. Which consequently is what most of them will cost since the most popular package is the touring and track models. The Evo is actually very nice inside and out once you see it in person. It outperforms the Z in every category. And it's more practical to boot. This car performs with the $50K cars and that's something you have to respect. I say pay what you feel the car is worth to you. If you can wait for the price drop by all means do so. If not and you can afford to pay the markup please buy the car. It's worth every penny IMO. This car is a blast to drive. No matter how many people hold out for MSRP dealers will ALWAYS try and markup the next hot car. This is a battle we can't avoid.

True. I'll pay 5k above but not 10k.

If you are in SoCal, Browning in Cerritos, and Ontario :mitsu: are the lowest. I believe Browning is at sticker and Ontario is at 2500 over. Good luck.

Coolguy949 Mar 15, 2003 01:51 AM

Browning is at sticker i believe but with 3500 in added options. I beleive you have to put an order in at this time since they are the lowest price in town. If anyone has any questions about SoCal, direct them to me. I check the dealers on a weekly basis. Also, check out my list in my sig....i try to keep that as current as possible.

This is a photo I took of the current deal at Browning as of 3/7/02.

At the time, they had this yellow EVO w/wing & roof available, and a black EVO on the way that the deal fell through on. I'm not sure what their avail inventory looks like now.

I will say, the guys there are really great - they understand that selling as many EVOs as possible will help Mitsu, help them, and help the customers - that's why I think they will continue to offer the best deal out there, even if it is still slightly above MSRP. Also - moving as many cars as they can early in the game should help them with future allocation as opposed to these other dealers that would rather let a car sit on the showroom floor with a ridiculous markup in the window.

My friend dealt with Daryll Ford in Sales and his manager's name is Juan Santoro - you can reach either of them at 562/924-1414. I was very impressed at how they handled the entire selling process from order to delivery. If you speak to them, tell them that the guy who took their 1st silver EVO's buddy sent you. I won't get a kickback or anything, but I would like them to know that I am making good on my promise to spread the word about their great service.

EDIT: BTW - I just want to clarify that I am in no way suggesting that anyone pay even the small markup that Browning wants. My friend paid MSRP for his car and so should everyone else. However, if you simply have to have the car now - Browning's deal should be the cheapest in California (at least SoCal) and the guys there were great to deal with. I agree with the original poster that the price on these cars may settle in the next few months, so even if you won't pay more than MSRP, maybe it would be wise to get yourself on Browning's list earlier than later. Good luck!

5K Over MSRP? You would pay that?? So you admit to being a fool and letting yourself be price gouged.

Finch106 Mar 15, 2003 03:55 AM

If you want to pay near MSRP, wherever you can find it do it, because as soon as June 2nd or whenever the Fast and Furious 2 comes out they will skyrocket in price.

DB350z Mar 15, 2003 07:29 AM

Evilution

I don't want to get in a pissing match but I still don't think the EVO is worth 35K. I saw one at the Chicago auto show and the performance is on par with a 40K car but everything else is not. Plus it has to be cheaper then the Sti. If Mitisu thought that the car was worth $35K and they could always get that price then that's what the MSRP would be.
I still believe my original statement is true. If you spend 5-10K above sticker you're going to feel like a real idiot in about 6 months when you see that others have paid sticker or below.

BTW

The 350Z Track is worth 35K. Not everything is aboout 0-60. The 350 is a complete different type of car then the Evo. If it was only about performance everyone would be buying that fast Neon. Looks, feel, quality, etc do matter.

Also I paid $28,000 for my enthusiast Z and it has everthing I want.

SilverEvoVIII Mar 15, 2003 08:45 AM

i got a clarification question. If i read that picture right the MSRP is like 30k and change, but isnt the actuall msrp like in the 28k-29k range?

OnlineAlias Mar 15, 2003 10:14 AM

I know of a dealer that has 2 EVOs and CAN'T SELL THEM! Over sticker WHAT?

Reality is setting in with EVO's already...

Coolguy949 Mar 15, 2003 10:24 AM

Yep, Tustin Mitsu here in so cal still has their original batch. Not one has sold. $10K mark-up.

OnlineAlias Mar 15, 2003 10:29 AM

10k over? This dealer can't sell them for MSRP! I'd be an owner if they had sunroofs in them...
