No cat or leaded gas on the street?

How bad are the potential leagal ramifications if you are caught without a cat, with an illigally modified cat, or running leaded fuel on the street?

Of course this is a stricktly hypothetical question and I don't condon street racing, in any form.

thanks in advance for your info or your flames.

I think its a grand and impoundment if the cop wants to. without the cat

lookEVO Nov 3, 2005 09:01 AM

i think they will never know or care depending on where you are. I have never ever ever ever ever had anything come up like that and have done both on numerous cars with no prblems, I even had no muffler, no cat 3.5 str8 tbe on my old Tsi talon and have sat at lights by cops accelerated past them, never once a prob. just dont be a tool

The fee for getting caught with no catalyst on your car depends on the state.

I've been catless for over a year with no problems. Like lookEVO said, if you aren't a jackass and attract attention to yourself it's likely that you'll never be bothered by the cops and never have to worry.

the police can impound your car
although i have never heard of that happening, nor a cop looking under a car for a cat.

my car is so low that i doubt they are gonna be all sprawed out on the concrete searching for a cat.. first of all, they would never do this unless they had backup to begin with.. just a thought, but also having a test pipe that looks like a cat would probably help your chances.

whats the benifits on using leaded gas, on top of that where do you get it haha iv never seen it before

Mad TKD Nov 3, 2005 03:31 PM

Some say the lead helps with detonation. But the main reason i use it in my supra is its super cheap. I pay only 3.49 to 3.89 now for 110 leaded race fuel at a gas station. I usually mix it with 93 pump.

Cali law $ucks but this is true.. one of my ex co-worker got his car impounded by cops due to

- Neon light flashing inside his car (96 civic ex lightly modded) ..... yes it is against the law (he has pink neon light as his 3rd tail brake light) ... kinda $ucks.

but does those cops on the street actually checking under your car???   and is that true that most of the cops been trained to look for cat or catless??

I doubt it but needs some input thanks

wont running leaded race gas in your car daily fry some o2 sensors in no time

Derek Baker Nov 3, 2005 06:07 PM

yes it will fry the o2 sensors over time

I researched this a bit and found this...

A Federal fine of up to $2,500.00 can be assessed for removing or tampering with a catalytic converter.

Texas State Fines can be up to $25,000.00 for removing or tampering with a catalytic converter.

Other states vary.

As far as the comment about the car being low...mirror on a stick gets under any car. Wouldn't want to get the knees dirty on the officer's uniform...ya know.

Not worth it in CA. I thought about it because of a really good deal I can get for an RS*R downpipe, but in the end 3-5whp is not worth $2500.

It sounds like its only a problem in cali or heavy developed areas like cities, i live in the woods haha but i still dont run catless just cause i like the enviroment haha and cause im afraid of sounding like a honda lawnmower, so im planning on buy a highflow cat from RRM
