Living life owning an EVO RS, what's it like?

I was seriously considering an RS for when I end up buying an EVO upon training homecomming. I was just curious from an RS owners point of view, what are some significant draw backs of owning one and some pros of owning one. I personally think the wingless look is nice, the RS is not an EVO you see around every day and that is a good quality, it may sound childish but being able to say the car was $27,000+ and has no power windows or locks... it is a no power windows, no power locks just balls no BS type of car and I like that quality alot and I would think that an RS owner would be somewhat educated in regards to the car, not some punk kid that beat the hell out of the car out of ignorance which would make finding one used that much more rich in piece of mind. Between the features it does not have, tid bits it does not have and things it does what would you discribe owning one to be like compared to a regular VIII or IX?

The RS is what the EVO is all about... its raw, light, and loud... I would not give it up for anything...

Rick any time you want to meet me I will take you out for a ride. I should have my car out of storage by the end of March. We could meet at York beach like we did when your buddy bought my wheels. Send me a Pm.:mitsu:

I was hoping to get an RS...just like my OLD ITR...Raw,no frils, to the point & made for really 1 purpose!Racing!
but had to jump on the 03 GSR traded in @ my dealership. :crap:

I could care less about pwr..and the noise its just fine w/ me.You have to have owned something similar or a RS to know whats its like.

The RS is def not for everyone though.
wing is optional...but everything else it has on it Totally makes up for it...Front diff,ACD,alum roof/fenders..and @least AC.

My RS has a completely stripped trunk, no stereo and full exhaust. i don't miss any of the "goodies". Hell, on most vehicles i've ever had that crap usually breaks first anyway. To me, this car is a substitute for the motorcycle i once had. There is a zen in driving a car with no distractions, monitoring the guages, hearing the road debris clinking on the cars undercarriage, smelling the brakes and clutch when they are pushed too hard. To me it is what i have been wishing for years to have. There is also the stealth aspect that is so fun it hurts my face sometimes. As long as i'm not on throttle i am invisible to cops. Just another white Lancer.
There are some things to note like the fact that without the wing the rear can hang out pretty far if you aren't used to it on the higher speed corners. Also, i grew up in Michigan and never felt the need to for ABS and now that i live in the desert i feel the need even less so i don't miss the ABS. Many of these kiddies here though may have grown up with it and may not understand that you can't be lazy with normal brakes. Other than the fact i wish there was an intercooler sprayer on the RS and the stock wheels are pretty heavy i couldn't ask for more.

I love my '05 RS. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing. You better be sure it's what you want before you get it though. It's like standing against the stage at a Slayer concert. It sounded like such an awesome idea on the drive to the show with all your friends, but once the music started and your friends realized how loud and how raw it is from that distance, about half of them retreated to the bar. Thirty minutes later another 2 or 3 bounced. Nobody could drive a car like the RS forever, but some of us will hold out longer than others. ;)

rs is the definition of an evo, why getta mr? to have comfort? getta cadilac then

livin with the rs...
-better have some long arms when opening/closing the passenger window
-manual door locks... dont bother me at all, my first car was a dodge spirit and i had to use the key to open my car door
-manual mirrors, why have powered mirrors when you only adjust them once?
-the rs is known for not having a wing, few people came up to me and said "nice rs"
always feels good to know that someone else knows its not a lancer, not just an evo, but an evo rs
-some say AC should be an option on the RS but its nice to have it for clearin up that fog on the windshield
-the rs allows you to install your own head unit cuz the stock one is ultra gay, but life gets extremely difficult when you have to drill your own holes for speakers, but dont worry, there are wires for them and for the head unit
-HID's would be nice, i had em in my previous 350z, you can always install aftermaket HID's tho, stock lights will do
-you get the factory gauges, relocate them bad boys in the place of the head unit (above AC controls) and install your cd playa in the cuby hole area which the GSR models have, no cd player bracets needed, just slip it in there
-get yourself a greddy Ti catback, a 3 inch test pipe, 3 inch downpipe, stiff motor mounts, short shifter, coilovers, clutch and some power mods and you got yourself one hell of an urban assault vehicle :headbang:

I really recomment the RS, it is the ultimate bang for the buck car, why pay more for comfort items? the evo is sopposed to be a rough, loud, tight, hard, bumpy, agile race car, RS is the answer.

Hope this helps! {thumbup}

Personally i feel that if your going to drive the car daily and drive as much as some people do, some creature comforts are needed, but if your leaning more toward a race car more so that daily driver (no that the rs cant be driven daily) then the rs is the best choice.

said perfectly....the only thing i would add is its fast too......i thought when i bought the RS model it stood for Really Slow, but i was wrong......im sure glad i was!!!!

JK: on the Really Slow....lol

This is a little off topic, but when they released the presss release about the RS in 03, Mitsu said that they would be offering an "Urban Jungle package" which would include A/C, power windows and locks, power mirrors and keyless entry. The package was suppose to only add 22lbs. to the RS (reg. RS - 3175, RS w/ Urban package - 3197).

Anyways, does anyone know why Mitsu never offered this Urban Package? I always thought the RS w/ Urban Jungle package would be the one to get, but since they never offered it, I got a GSR (or two).

why would u buy the mr.....i dont understand. People think the more money something costs the better its gonna be

Psycodave Feb 16, 2006 10:49 PM

I love my RS I get a lot of crap because I payed 28000 for a car with no radio or power any thing but I just say 'see you at the track' and they shut up the only thing I do not like is not having the carpet panels in the trunk because I like to show my car's and the trunk looks like s**t so if anyone knows anyone gutting out their GSR let me know I would love to buy the trunk pieces.
