safe break in period for IX's

Evom,

Hi guys, my IX has 779 miles now and the manual says 600 miles break in, I did a few searches and people say they let it rip after 600 miles and some say 800 while others wait until 1000 miles... just curious to see how long you (IX) guys go before full throttle! {thumbup}

Warrtalon Feb 24, 2006 10:17 PM

Honestly, I've answered this question 10-20 times myself. Please review the previous 1000 threads that discussed the break-in procedure. You already know what the manual says, and the manual is on the conservative side, so therefore........

yes searching helps, but there are many arguements about how to break in your car for how long.... dont just search this forum seach the internet totally..... but in either way, SEARCH

Just drive it normal. Forget these complicated 25 step 3 different oil types break-in's.

I'm still going strong with an 03' 40k.

I'd shoot for 1000 before getting aggressive (even after 1000, I wouldnt be too aggressive just yet). Also, change the oil once you hit 1000. This ensures any leftover materials from the assembly process are purged out of the oiling system. I know it's hard to restrain yourself but you'll be glad you did down the road. Keep it safe out there.

I hit about 800 miles a couple days ago and changed the oil yesterday. Let the shredding begin!!

Why would a IX matter? It's no different.

Also, don't listen to what Evo_Z said. 1000 miles is crazy. That's just wasting time not using your Evo...

Thanks for the info guys, Warr, don't worry I'm not wasting anytime with my EVO :D .

The guy asked for what the 'safe' break-in period is for his car. As most you know, the answers will vary because it all comes down to how well you treat your cars. If you dont plan on keeping the car for long, by all means drive it like a crazy person.
Geez, post something useful on this forum and you get heckled. Hey dont blame me if your evo starts eating oil after 5k. Seriously, I sometimes question the maturity (or immaturity) level of some folks on the board. :o

You can't be serious. Even going 600 miles without ragging out the car is considered excessive to many people. Dave Buschur himself takes the Evos right off the lot and right down the drag strip or right onto the dyno. You should probably check your facts before calling someone immature who has answered this question so many times. I don't know why you think we have to go over 1000 miles without pushing our cars, but I assure you that it is not shared by anyone else in this community who knows anything.

Btw, what you said was not useful. We don't eat oil after 5k if we follow the Mitsubishi break-in procedure. Sorry to break the news to ya...

So that would mean I'm an ignoramus because I actually want to preserve my car in good working order. Hey I gave my opinion and there it is. If you have a different opinion you're entitled to it so please give me the same courtesy. Is it sooo bad that I actually want to preserve my car and enjoy it at the same time? Sheesh.

That's the problem. These aren't opinions. You are just wrong. Waiting over 1000 miles won't preserve your car at all. I don't know why you think it does...

Don't fight it.... just accept the fact that Warrtalon is always right.

In fact, since he is now the #1 source on information regarding how to properly break your car in, we can all rejoice in knowing that we have FINALLY discovered the proper break-in method!

Those silly magazines and their articles about how to really do it. Warrtalon knew all along!

JUST LET PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OPINIONS!!!! WHO ARE YOU MAN!?!? Good lord...
