are the '06 IX's still breaking their trannies?
Sorry, new here, and trying to decide whether to buy an IX or another sti.
I remember the 03 and 04 transmissions were breaking first & second gears pretty regularly, even at stock power. Have they fixed that by now, or is it still a problem? Thanks :flamesuit on for not searching for 2 hours: |
heh good thing you got your flamesuit on , ix trannys are excellent and if you are looking at a sti ask if it comes in "MENS"? cause all i see are bit**es driving them

I haven't heard anything about a IX breaking a tranny
|
^Lol
:needs to meet some Sti b1tches: Ok, I had read that the 5 speed had skinny little 1, 2 gears, and that the 6 speed had fat 1, 2 gears but after that he tall gears got real weak. So much contradicting info... |
I have a 03 and my transmission hasn't broken yet.

I am buying another car to get away from having to fix the first one all the time (PITA), and I don't want to buy something that has insta-break components (especially expensive ones) |
You have been driving an AWD car so you should know how to drive one. You should have no trouble driving an evo and keeping its parts intact.
|
03 and 04 trannies where never breaking 1st or 2nd. only a small few experienced grinding because of the syncros, but they never broke gears.
|
i dont think anyone really broke the gears in the earlier trannies it was more like they had shifting/ syncro problems...its not like the second gear in a wrx that would just explode if you pushed it at all :p
|
you hear alot of things about evos
but you should look at the brighter side, look at the nice gains ppl are making off mild IX setups |

I've never heard of 03/04 trannies breaking gears.
I've never heard of the Evo 5spd having skinny gears. I've never heard of the Evo 6spd having fat gears. Quite the opposite...the 5spd has beefier gears, and the 6spd has to fit more gears into the same space. I don't know where you read this stuff, but you were fed some misinformation. Good thing you asked, although you would have found this info from 2 hours of searching like you said you didn't do. |

My 03 tranni has 5th gear grinding issues, and 3rd grinds too on a rare ocassion.
|
The 03's had issues with 5th gear synchro's going out, like stated. That's about it.
There were initial reports of clutches going out pretty often as well with the 03's, but that's because some of the initial owners (not me) were during 6-7k clutch dumps. No trans probs to speak of really. IX is solid as well. |
