ARRGG can't test drive!

Just went to :mitsu: dealer in wantage LI, NY.

They are selling evos @ MSRP, but they wont' let me test drive it....... {thumbdwn}

:shoot: :shoot: :shoot: :shoot:
How can I buy a car without testing it first??

Any Evo Owner in LI ny willing to let me ride in their evo so i can at least feel how the car runs?

Kinmar_X Apr 9, 2003 09:20 PM

I am glad that :mitsu: doesnt allow test drives to anyone but serious buyers... I know how most people test drive a performance car, and i wouldnt want my Evo to be driven like that before i even got a chance to break it in. I would be rather angry if my dealer allowed somone not interested in buying the car test drive it just to see what it could do.

Its worth it, trust me. Everything you heard about the handling and acceleration is true. I felt the same way, but soon as I pulled out of the dealership it was all good, and the car was better than I had hoped. So take a chance, if you are looking for go-cart handling and manic acceleration, you won't be disappointed.

I understand, but shouldn't the dealer at least set aside one evo for test driving purposes?

I sat down with the sales person and got most of the details worked out, but I wanna test the car before i put down the money for it.

BTW
Evo i looked @ was $30,867. Im going to put down 9.9k down, but still need to pay around $520 / month.. with interest @ 6.9%...
I think thats a little high, because the BMW 325 I got last year with same stats was only around $430 / month. Didn't really bother asking the salesperson to double check the price. since i can't test drive. :(

$520 per month is correct (after tax) if you are doing a 48 month loan. The price drops to about $430 for 60 months. My advice is to find a better rate. Just getting it down to 4.9% for 60 months will get you to about $410.

As for the test drive, I went to the Mitsu dealer today and they weren't allowing test drives either. I'm not suggesting that every Evo needs to be test driven. There should be a tester car available. Even a tester with 2000 miles on it will sell near or at MSRP. Not everyone would buy it, but it will sell.....just like the SRT-4's you see on the road. Those were test cars, most sold for well over MSRP. I also went to Nissan for the obvious reason. That car is nearly a year out and they still won't allow a test drive....Maybe that's why they have four just sitting on the lot.

I already have mula depositted for an STi. That car I would buy with driving it first simply because I have a WRX now, and it can only get better. The Evo is just starting to get my attention. At first (before any reviews and mods were out). I was looking at it as not better enough over my 350hp WRX to warrant me selling it to buy the Evo. 2.0 for 2.0.....not worth it, but now I'm starting to look at it differently. It sounds to have great handling and good power mod potential. None the less, if I can't drive it first, I'll stick with Subaru.

mod potential? never seen dsm's doin 12's with very very little money in them huh

Zimownage Apr 10, 2003 06:34 AM

....the 520 / month price is for a 60 month loan.....

:dunno:

Go out onto the web and find yourself a loan calculator. Unless you know how to figure out the math yourself, thats the only way you will know if what the dealer is telling you is true.

It's hard to have an Evo to be set aside for test drives. Dealers aren't getting enough of em in stock to allow that luxury.... considering that most dealerships will be getting under 10 Evos this year...and some are only getting one or two.

Hey man, go to Potamkin :mitsu: , If they let their "manager" take the black evo home that i was "supposed" to buy, you might actually have a shot at driving one.

White Plains took care of me btw and i only had 9mi on my car when i picked it up. They rock:headbang:

Good luck finding a test drive, you gotta understand the EVO is the first car in :mitsu: of America's history where there's been anykind of demand, so most dealers are acting like you are trying to ask their daughters out for a prom date. I would say just wait if you really want to test drive and buy one.... 6.9% on the car is not really a good deal unless your credit is not cutting it.

Longfury Apr 10, 2003 11:43 AM

Every dealer i have went too has said the same thing....either A) run a credit app to be sure u could buy it afterwards or B) fill out everything (basicly buy the car) and then take the test drive and if u don't want the car after either option u can walk with no commitment

personaly i think option B is over kill but i can understand their postition on this car and i can understand just about everyone elses too

ok, i see everyones problem.... all you guys need to do is have the salesman take you for a drive just like he did me....its not the same let me tell you that...but at least you get to see what the car does....and make him haul ass for you and see what kind of response it gives out....so anyways my point is if your gonna buy the car and your really interested make arrangements with your sales dude and he'll be more than gladly to take you out on the test drive if your really serious and have the money for it...thats what i did thanx to Lance Martinez @ Sisbarro Mitsubishi In NEW MEXICO:mitsu:

Zimownage Apr 10, 2003 01:04 PM

thx for the opinion guys.
I think i'll wait till more competitions and demands are lower.

I'll stick with my Jeep and BMW for now

I understand your frustration. The first car my dealer got was a blue one, I asked to drive it, he did not let me as he knew I was not getting that color. I test drove the one I am purchasing this Saturday.

I must agree with the dealers. There too few available evos for people to be taking joy rides ( not saying that this is what you are doing) I feel that in time, the car will be available for test drives

Taking a test drive or letting the salesperson drive the car....it's all the same.

Most dealerships aren't letting ANYONE drive the Evos. Not the salesmen, not the manager, and least of all the tirekickers....

Other than when it get's PDI'd and when it gets filled with gas, the car sits stationary.
