Crap! Can't believe I did this...

OK, I'm pretty pissed at myself but I accidently wiped my Gauge Cluster with some Armorol interior wipes that wasn't meant to clean Glass or Acrylic.

Now my gauge cluster is all smeared and blurry...

I've tried cleaning the residue with different cleaning products but I can not get it off!

Anyone experienced this problem before? I need some tips on how to remove this stuff...

Any help will be MUCH appreciated. Thanks in advanced!

It is just a residue on it?

If it is just take a towel or something to it. If that doesnt work try a wet cloth not other cleaning products.

this may sound weird but my mom had some trouble getting something off of her gauge cluster once. And im 100% sure she mixed up some vinager and water....and whatever it was came off(i forget what it was) but give that a try and see if it works. also have you tried windex(sp?)

Get a micro fiber towel and absorb off what you can. Then get another microfiber towel and some warm or maybe even hot water and give it another wiping. Should do the trick. Anything else you use on that plastic may leave small hairline scratches on the surface. Good luck.

With my old ES cluster I did the same thing. Could not get it off and it stayed there until I finally swapped my cluster out. But yes I did experience it before.

Try isopropanol (rubbing alcohol). That should remove any neutral silicone products. Then try white vinegar water mixture, followed by more rubbing alcohol. You could also then try windex.

Avoid anything with acetone in it.

EDIT phone Amorall and see what they say.

vinegar and water would would work as mentioned before, but not sure about the smell. rubbing alcohol might be an alternative solution. I know we use it to clean electronics b/c it evaporates w/o a residue.

For the future, try 303 Aerospace. It's water based, not sylicon or oil and is much friendlier to your interior and exterior. Windex should get that Armorol off your guage cluster.

blaze_125 Apr 17, 2006 11:35 AM

is water-vinegar doesn't work, use lighter fluid with a micro fiber towel(or even just a scott towel)

Bexa20 Apr 17, 2006 11:43 AM

I think rubbing alcohol should do the trick

Thanks, you all have been very helpful..

I've tried Windex and other related products, still no luck. Once I get home I will try the Alcohol and the vinegar method. Hope that will fix this up, I hope I dont need to buy a new cluster...

The BS is that I also wiped a small part of my drivers side door and now the paint is also smeared..

Any suggestions for getting that off?

mother sells a product for cleaning plastic lenses including headlights and taillights...can't remember what it's called but it comes in a red bottle. use that and see if that helps.

use a microfiber towel with stoner invisable glass cleaner and i guarantee you it will come off no problem, you might have to do it twice. I accidently used the stoner tire shine on my windshield once(same exact container) I then used the stoner window cleaner with the micro towel and it took it off like it was never there, Just do it, foreget about alcohol and vinegar or anything else just get the stoner windpw cleaner, the stuff is truely amazing.

Dont feel so bad. I while back in my old car I was cleaning the cluster when it was 100 degrees out. I sprayed windex on it and it automatically dried out and the watermarks permanantly stayed on the bezel. My brother once used wheel cleaner to clean his gauge cluster and it turned all foggy and he couldn't see through it. He used tire shine and and armor all and it was like new again. It also lasted almost a year. Hope that helps.
