So who's done a mail-in flash on an Evo IX?

Just curious as to how many of you have done a mail in flash with either Dynoflash or any other vendor on a stock Evo IX. Even if you have light modifications as drop in, or intake, TBE, let's hear about it. I want to see what you all think.

Al of of people have gotten mail-in Dynoflashes or e-flash Dynoflashes. I'm not sure if any other tuners are doing mail-ins on the IX, but the Dynoflashed IXs are fast as hell. View the Dynoflash forum, EcuFlash forum, and Drag Racing forum for examples.

i sent my ecu into dynoflash and was not happy with it at all. PM me for details.

I got my car dynoflashed a couple weeks ago. Not on a stock IX though. I already had tbe, intake/upper ic piping, mbc at 21 psi.
I honestly don't know if there's a difference from before reflash. Not one that I feel anyway. rev limiter in first was raised like it states it will. I had my car down for about 6 days, so when i put the ecu back in and took it for a spin, it felt the same.
I thought gas mileage was gonna be beter, but from what i was told when I askd the question, "Generally reflash does not change gas mileage at all as the majority of operation is in closed loop mode where the factory ecu mainatins a solid 14.6 / 1 a.f"
So until I can get my car on the dyno, I don't know what I really gained from getting reflashed.

Clos23 Jul 1, 2006 07:50 AM

I have no idea if there's a way or how to do that.

BretTheJet26 Jul 1, 2006 07:52 AM

ive gotten a dynoflash on my stock VIII, and i noticed a difference, i recommend it

If I was getting my ECU flashed I would dyno the car before the flash or run it at the drag strip. Then I would mail in the ECU or have it flashed. After the flash I would dyno or go to the drag strip again to see if there are any improvements.

If you do not do it that way, then you will not be sure of the power gains if any.

I had it on a dyno jet when it was mostly stock except catback exhaust. 268hp/2something tq. I'll have to find my dyno chart for exact numbers.

Turbo Trix also does a mail in flash for the IX, I saw numbers posted on this once, and honestly I was a bit disappointed. There are probably others who have had better numbers though, but haven't posted.

Vishnu also offers a mail in flash, but kind of pricey though, $750 (I believe) for a mail in flash is a little too much in my opinion.

Dynoflash mail in flash seems to be the best bang for the buck, there are some people who have been disappointed, but more often than not customers seem to be satisified with there numbers. 320-330WHP with TBE, MBC, and intake seem to be the numbers being put down by most IXs with a mail in flash from Dynoflash.

Those are your numbers before or after the mail in flash? I hope that is before.

Clos23 Jul 1, 2006 08:31 AM

Yeah, those are definitely before. hehe

I always get a custom tune but hasnt been in SoCal since I got my IX,so mail in will due for now.

Anyways got my mail in flash from DynoFlash, been using him for my old 2003 RIP and now my IX MR. Always happy with the results and recommend him.

No proven results from me just butt dyno. Buschur Parts with Dynoflash killer combo.

did anyone try the Works P2R brain flash on the IX??
as we speak..i am getting my first mods installed...a custom 3" high flow cat-back / cat-delete / drop in works intake..i am worried that with those basic breathing mods..the car will tend to run lean...thinking about the works P2R...any feedback ??

thanks in advance

A few points

#1 - With the Dyno Flash IX version I have a whole host of customers tearing up the track - there are about 10 of them with 1/4 mile times from 11.56 through 12.20 - all with stock turbo - stock cams - stage II or lower (See Buschur Racing Stages for details)

On the Dyno the IX's have also shown much more power than the 8's as well. On the average a IX with basic mods of stage I such as buschur intake, exhuast MBC and fuel pump with the Dyno Flash makes about 330 - 350 whp on 93 octane pump gas which is equal to a Evo 8 with stage 3 - 4 including cams and a front mount.

So until I can get my car on the dyno, I don't know what I really gained from getting reflashed.

A few points as we discussed in our PM conversation so others can follow

On CLOSED LOOP :mitsu: specifies a very fuel efficient 14.6 / 1 a/f which is going to net you very decent gas mileage if you can stay in closed loop operation mode

Closed loop is called that becuase the ecu is reading the o2 sesnor voltage and constanly adjusting the fuel trims to achive the desired a/f targer - 14.6 - this is feedback loop or closed loop

Dyno Flash does NOT alter tye closed loop target leaner becuase to do so would create additional heat in the head and I do not recomend it

MOST evos owners spend a lot of time in open loop or boosting mode of operation

In open loop mode there is no feed back - the ecu runs off the fuel maps in the tuning tables without any correction from the 02 sesnor feed back

In this area of the mapping the Dyno Flash is significantly leaner than stock mapping - however - becaue the Dyno Flash also makes more power - thereby needing more fuel usually the gas mileage is a wash compared to stock

As for your particular car - I suggested that you try to verify your boost gauge is accurate and that you do not have any boost leaks

The mail in Dyno Flash usually makes at least 25 whp gains on a IX peak and makes a huge improvement in the shape of the curve and TQ profile

I have had customers who could not "feel' the improvement - in some cases I had to show them the power gains on the dyno

In any event - if you are not totally satisfied - as many know I have a 2 week unconditional test drive period and will refund your money if you send the ecu back to be flashed back to stock.

Call me or PM if you have any additional concerns. I offer tech support and free advice and I would like to get your car running to your satisfaction.
