Evo's With Sunroof
 

Curious if any Evo owners that got a sunroof have any complaints about them.

I am currently looking to get an Evo without sunroof but I might have to get one with a sunroof in order to get the color I want. I do plan to autocross so I was leaning away from the sunroof but I am not super competitive so my autocrossing is mostly just for fun. Any good natured fatherly advice here will be greatly appreciated.

Any opinions on resale (not thinking that I will want to sell but you never know) values with regards to roof/no roof?

does that 20-30 lbs really matter?...i mean if you weight 180 and the other driver weight 150...then whats the difference?....i would say just go with whatever you feel like...afterall its your ride. personally i am going to get one with roof cause i am a skinny guy.

I'm not what you'd call a skinny guy. I tend more to the fat side. Truth be known I have lost 50lbs in anticipation of this car. 30 more to go and then I will just be a big guy. I am concerned with the loss of structural rigidity though. I would love to know how much this is affected by the addition of the sunroof.

The sunroof supposedly makes the cabin roof slightly lower, so if you're tall you may have clearance problems with a helmet when autocrossing. I didn't have any problems with it this past weekend and I'm 5'7" tall.

Otherwise a sunroof is always a nice option down here in TX. Though I think that if I lived in Houston I might keep the windows closed most of the time to keep as much pollution out as possible. ;)

No problems with the sunroof. I'd say go for it. The only downside as I see it is that you'd lose the sunglass holder with the sunroof option. :crap:

As far as having a less stiff ride with the sunroof ... since you claimed that competing is more fun than competiton ... I would say go for the sunroof ... it really should be that noticeable unless you are a Professional driver who is constantly on the track. Then again, some people really have the have the BEST PEFORMANCE possible so ... ya know.

yeah the weight and ridgitity are negligible in real racing cause it is almost always 99% driver skill. However the sunglass holder loss is a real shame since with a sunroof youd think youd need sunglasses; and isn't it Ironic.

i got sunroof, love it and recommend it...

I just keep my sunglasses (and regular glasses for driving at night) in the little compartment under the steering wheel.

Sunroof is great! I have one. It makes a big difference when you are driving around and want some outside fresh air. Im not all about keeping my hair in perfect shape, but sometimes having the windows down just totally wrecks my ass. So if you are on your way to the ladies crib, and got your hair done, live on and be free with a sunroof!!!:lol:

I have a sunroof and dont'like it. Everytime i lean my head to the left with a helmet on i hit the roof where is lower than the glass roof itself. I'm a little over 6 foot.

I say get the sunroof, just so you will be able to tell our cars apart at the autocrosses.
We can always try each others car out to see the differences as well. If its a noticible difference, you can be jelous of my car. If its not, I can be jelous of yours.

having the glass makes no noticeable difference in weight or rigidity. If you plan to pour money into your ride it won't matter anyway. true...the head room is a negative for tall people (I'm 6'5"!!!), but you get a new seat and a steering wheel spacer...problem fixed.

It not just that the sunroof weighs 35 pounds extra. It's where that extra weight is located that is detrimental. That extra 35 pounds is located at the very highest point in the car. That will make the body of the car lean more at the limit. It'll transfer more weight to the front wheels on braking.

I would think it's enough to make some diff at the autocross.

But if you'd really like to have a sunroof on your Evo, this should not deter you from getting what you want.

i opted not to get the sunroof. I believe loss of weight is going to be a huge part of getting more out of this car. No sunroof just puts me 35 pounds more in the game. Titanium exhaust..another 20, light wheels another 40 total. That's 95 lbs! Eat subway everyday and that's another 5 which equals 100. LOL

In a more practical approach, I just didn't want the hassle. My sunroofs in the past have all ended up being problematic eventually and they cost a significant amount.
