Factory radio replaced, again...I guess third time wasn't a charm...
Hey everyone! So, this is one of the issues i've had with my car so far. :(
I've taken a few trips to LA these last few months and i noticed something, whenever i use the factory radio nonstop for an hour or so, it starts to overheat and becomes inoperable. If i put my hand on the front of the radio its really hot and when i've taken out the cd i sometimes drop it cause its too hot to handle. The cds dont play anymore after that, am/fm is fine but cant enjoy my cds. {thumbdwn} Its not just that either, before it stops working i'm hinted at when its going to take a crap on me...shifting...shifting sometimes shuts the radio off and soon after the cds stop playing. I don't have to be driving the car for a long time either, sometimes after my morning car warmup as i take off in gear the radio starts to spaz out on me and stops working. I'm going to take in the car on tuesday to see what they have to say about it again. I havent had any problems with having it replaced but its becoming a pain. Any ideas on what it could be? I hope i dont have a lemon. Any ideas on how i should handle this? :usflag: {thumbup} |
I thought this similar thing was happening to me but it just ended up being that im a dumbass and I accidently put in the mp3 cd...lol....but anyways did this happen when you first got the car or it just recently start?

Have you ever had the fuse that the radio is on blow? Also, double check that radio fuse and make sure it is the the correct amperage. There is no way the stereo should fry before the fuse does. |
You could go through and run new wires. For some people the radio is a huge deal and running wires would only be a minor project to be happy again..
If it is still under warranty hopefully they will fix it for you but I doubt they will find the short. I just got finished rewiring a 2002 4runner and it was a full day job including new speakers, amps, etc. Do you have the infinity system? |
