Mr Fq400 Ecu

Someone is selling me a UK spec MR FQ400 ECU for a bargain price. Can i just swap it with my ecu or need to upgrade other parts? I have a full TBE, mbc, O2 housing/exhaust manifold, walbro fuel pump with a base flash. I will be installing HKS 280's by next week. Should i buy the FQ 400 ecu or just get a good tune?

i would say just get a good tune

Not too familiar with that ecu, but it's designed for a much larger turbo. I don't know how well it takes to a re-flash, if at all. Not much help, but I would just stick with yours and a good tune.

Agreed

I really don't see why you would want the FQ400's ECU. It is not tuned for your particular setup on your car or our gas, there are people who can flash your stock ECU to work with your current mods and, there is also do it yourself option. Not to mention potential issues with the immobilizer system. Sounds like a bad idea or someone taking you for a sucker.

If you really want an FQ ECU from the UK to work, you should be buying all of this stuff to go with it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...7124&rd=1&rd=1

Otherwise you will run into problems with the immobilizer. Also, unless you have exactly the same hotside,exhaust,i/c pipes, cams, internals, etc. that Owen/Ralliart are using on the 320,360,or 400 packages, the cal will be off and it's not going to run well at all.

Like they said, why not just get a cal for your EXACT configuration, then you know it's right and you won't damage the engine.

That's what I thought  As far as I know it doesn't come with a factory style ecu. If he's buying the Motec I would say yes and get it retuned.

You guys are right. I just got a reply from the seller that i need to upgrade to a bigger turbo used by FQ400. He also told me to expect a lot of turbolag. Thanks for all your input.

Why upgrade to the Motec? The factory ECU is sufficient for most setups and with the mods he has I can't see any real advantage to going with a Motec. I mean it may be able to make a few more ponies since it probably has better resolution but, I don't see it being head and shoulders above what the factory ECU can do.

with a custom harness you can use motec with any car.

Motec is a TRUE standalone.

It's supposedly a Motec, that's what I had read I think.

I understand what Motec is. I have some experience with them but, more with Pi research.

What I'm getting at is why bother to purchase a new computer, when your factory one will handle more than what your average user is going to throw at it and maintain all of the stock functionality. (MIL lights, ignition immobilizer, etc...)

Unless you have built one serious monster there is just about no need to go standalone these days especially for a street car.
