Brembo's take on Caliper peel?
 

So the other day I called Brembo since I was getting no where with the dealers around here on getting my calipers replaced since they've been peeling for the last few years.

Brembo told me there was in fact a problem with the batch during the 03 year in particular and had the most issues with that year, but I must go through Mitsubishi to get them changed. As much as he said he wish he could help me by replacing them it is out of their hands. He told me he has had plenty of complaints exactly the same as mine.

He instructed me to do the following:

1. Either find a dealer somewhere (he said they are out there) that will just replace the calipers with no problems.

2. Write Mitsubishi a letter explaining your situation.


So now I'm asking you about these options:

1. I'm from North Jersey (zip 07444) is anyone 100% positive on a specific dealer that will replace them? I dont mind driving a little.

2. Anyone know an e-mail or address that I can use to send in my letter of complaint?


I want to try to avoid painting them my self so please if you post just post about the topic above. Thanks for your help.

id like to know myself because my look butt ugly right now

I bought mine used and the warrantry is expired...what are the chances i could get a dealer to swap mine? Im getting new rotors and pads soon and dont really wanna go through the trouble of painting them myself

id like to do this with my girlfriends 03 evo, but its out of warrenty. do you think its still possible to get them replaced?

LMFAO, at first glance i though you said you wanted to get your GF replaced hahaha. Im out of warranty also i might end up just having to buy some Caliper paint and do it myself its probably not worth the wait and I can do it much faster then waiting on them. Unless they want to send the new sets to me

um no chance. expired warranty is an expireed warranty plain and simple

shouldn't it be covered under paint and corrosion? I told the dealer about this at 10k miles now I'm at 50k miles.

why didn't you guys just change the stock pads and brake fluid before a track day? I think the #1 reason for the peel is the heat transfer from the crappy stock pads/fluids, I changed mine before my first track day and *knock on hood* haven't had the peel yet. . .

When it does happen, I'm switching to some high end braking system (Endless, etc.) COMPLETELY for looks since the stock calipers are more than I can even use. . .lol. . .

Who said I tracked the car? I've never tracked the car. Brembo stated there was a problem with the 03 evo's brake batch. Has nothing to do with what you are talking about. Please as I stated in the first post {offtopic}

You mean to say it's peeling WITHOUT any tracking? That's whacked out. . .still change pads/fluids to prevent further heat transfer. . .good luck with warranty work, btw, I wasn't off topic, just informing others how to help prevent the peel. . .:rolleyes:

Did at 3k miles. Hawk pads, and changed fluids, even better front rotors to prevent pad buildup and better venting. There are a lot of posts out there about brake peeling. This is not track related, or heat related. It is defective parts and it is a known incident but a lot of dealers are being pricks about replacing them. I just want to keep this more on topic to what I discussed, and people will start talking about how to prevent it, fix it, but not answer the origional question. I appreciate your help but from this point forward please only post in reference to the first post.

hey, the breaks are the exact same that come on the Evo9s....so find someone who has a car still underwarrenty (Evo9) swap out the calipers and have him , get a brand new set via. warrenty, and everyone is happy.....simple and easy....

It isnt the dealers being pricks, it is Mitsu corp. They didnt spend the extra dough to powerder coat the calipers in the begining (like all other Brembos are) and now they are stuck with the calipers (signed contract) so in the end, we are the ones screwed and stuck with the peeling calipers.
