EVO's ABS sucks in the snow...
I cant stop for ****. Everytime ABS kicks in, I just keep sliding forward. Any recommendations as far as stopping, or just get better tires? Im on all season Nexens that came with the car. |
then get some cheap, but raw snow tires for only for the snow. get some 225/ 45 -17
or if its fit, i would 215 /50- 17. only for snow. |
for 120 each
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=1 for 105 each http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=0 |
Oh my god, I hate ABS. I've never had a car with ABS. I'm half tempted to take it out, but I don't want to mess anything up. M first day driving in the snow, ABS almost killed my 3 times.
I solve it by braking JUST to the point of ABS and light pump the brakes myself. A good driver can stop faster wihtout ABS, then with ABS fully engaged. |
It's not the ABS, it's your tires. The tires only have so much friction, especially on the snow, and the best ABS in the world won't be able to stop you if you're asking for more traction than you have available.
Get some snow tires, and brake earlier and lighter. |
Get the Blizzak WS-50. I bought them back when they were like $140 each and they are well worth it. Mount them on your stock wheels and get a set of summer wheels for summer tires.
Also, stop trying to turn while braking. Brake, let off the brakes, turn, accelerate. If you have the WS-50's then just turn to full lock without braking. You'll slide straight for about a second, but then they'll grip and turn the car. Once you're turning, give it some gas to rotate the back end around and then steer with the rear.:D |

Get some snow tires, and brake earlier and lighter. But of course, better tires WILL help  I'm using some all-seasons right now. |

Why not just pull the ABS fuse?
|
Blizzack LM25v's, ABS hardly kicks in. If ever. My ABS would kick on all the time when riding on all seasons, Toyo Proxes 4. I made the switch to snows this year.

abs really helps
maybe its how you drive thats making you have braking problems.... you cant expect to brake at the last minute when its snowing, even with the best snow tires |
yeah i remember the first time i drove my evo in the snow... WOW hahahah it was rough. Thats why this year its in the garage and its not coming out. Plus it will help avoid ripping my front lip off also lol
