Socket stuck on spark plug and can't back out

My 13/16 socket is on top of the spark plug in the plug well but I can't get it out and my extension won't plug into it. I tried moving the socket around and its stuck on the plug pretty tight. Any ideas?

what do you mean your extension wont plug into it? you must have used a pretty thick socket im assuming?

basicaly i tried to loosen the spark plug with the extension but my extension won't plug into the socket thats stuck on the plug.

since the spark plug is all the way in the socket its probably loose enough to use a magnet. try it

stick a flathead into the square hole & loosen until u can fit the extension back in. u may have overtightened the plug. i hope the motor is cold while ur working on it...

Take a pic. It sounds to me like the tip of the spark plug is in the hole preventing you from inserting the extension? Need a picture. If so, vice grip the socket and tap it gently side to side with a rubber mallet.

that is exactly whats happening, I tried some vicegrips but they were too large. I probably need to get a really small one to fit through the plug well.

I;m still thinking this wont work because the socket will just move side to side with the plug. Maybe if I try turning the socket to loose the plug with the rubber mallet...hmmm

Is it stuck on just too deep to get to? Then the magnet idea sounds good.
Maybe you could try to insert a screw driver with the tip heated and bent to an "L" shape and try to insert it in to the square drive hole between the socket and the plug. Try to pull it up.
Well, if all else fails and your socket is meaty enough.......1) make sure all the plugs are in (for shavings) 2) get your drill out and make a hole off to the side of the square drive . 3) tap it and thread a long enough screw into it 4) pull out your trusty ol' clutch changin',axle pullin', slide hammer out and yank her out. Good luck bro.

needle nose pliers worked. This time around I didn't drop the socket all the way in but just enough to start turning the spark plugs loose. The install was the same I just used the extension with the socket then drop it down then tighten it with my hands until I couldn't anymore.

I suggest buying a real spark plug socket.

I can't believe that people don't use spark plug sockets for changing their spark plugs.

Seriously! I got one the other day at Advanced Auto for $1. Pulls the plug out after thread release and has that nice hex head on the outside for situations like..... THIS ONE!!! ;)
