Your RPM Limit to prevent Lugging (Bogging) for EVO's
Sometimes I like to cruise in my evo and lately, I think i have been lugging the car. (Which is beyond bad for the engine). I usually try to keep my car above 2,000 RPMS at all times. ( i have been going about 50mph at 2,000 RPMS).
Do you think this a good safety limit or do you think I should raise it up more? The small detonations are very hard to tell and there times I do feel like I am lugging only because I put more gas and the car doesn't move as fast. ( I assumed it was because of the high gear, not that I always drive like this). It just makes question if 2,000 or even 1800 rpm in 5th is good enough. What do you guys think? What is your safety limit? |
6k for me. and no its not safe:)
haha jk. normaly about 3k and i dont know if its safe |
Lol~~~~!!!!!

2,000 is well above lugging the engine. You're fine.

I try to cruise as close to 1.5k rpms as I can with gear/speed permitting.
Basically I noticed with my evo IX traveling 30 mph or more the limit zone is right at 1.5k rpms for smoothness. If I cruise on or below 1.5k rpm mark then the motor feels like it's struggling or doesnt have enough power to stay at speed smoothly or accelerate smoohtly. Is there such thing as crusing too low of an rpm? I dont know... But I just try to keep the rpms as low as possible as the engine will still operate smoothly and not give out vibrations as when your way too low in the rpm range. |
On my 8, it seems to be okay at 1500rpms in 3rd. But trying that in 5th... sounds like crap and feels like crap. Doesn't really seem to like being below 2k in 5th.

I guess it is best to listen and see, like spdracerut says it depends on gear and loading.

yeah much below 2k in top gear it did seem to lug, and about 200 rpm less for each lower gear all the way down to first.

i keep my rpms above 2500 while cruising
Cheers! |
