Motor Trend's Long-Term Test Verdict: Evo MR SE

The article itself doesn't say much new that we don't already know, plus it seems MUCH less elaborate than past long-term test verdicts, especially compared to their original verdict of their '03 Evo. Also, their test data seemed a little slower than expected (0-60 in 4.8, quarter-mile in 13.5 @ 102.1 even though they misprinted and just put 3.5, 60-0 in 115 ft, lateral acceleration of 0.92 g), especially compared to the awesome numbers that their '03 produced or even their '06 IX MR from their comparison test with the STI.

Any thoughts? (This article isn't on Motor Trend's website yet.)

I remember when they tested all three trims from one model year. The results were interesting to say the least.

^ You're talking about the one year test verdict, right?

Drooke Mar 5, 2008 09:27 PM

how is the rs 0-60 faster...... is the 2006 mr a 4.5 0-60

sblvro Mar 5, 2008 10:24 PM

the MR should be faster in the real world as the 5th gear is lower than the GSR 5th gear making 60-120mph a blast.

mn_vette Mar 6, 2008 09:12 AM

Are the 8 and the RS really a second apart in the 0-100? That's roughly the equivalent of a quarter mile.

I didn't think there was THAT much of a difference.

Crazy, good info.

I bought my RS for 26K right when the 04 hopped off the boat from Japan. What a steal. I have nine grand in my pocket over the MR and is the fastest in the straight line. whoo hoo for me and my foresight. Also I am on the stock clutch at 86k miles. Cant wait till its paid off to really start having fun.

Too bad the RS doesnt have ABS. and the wing. and the radio.

It's definitely not for everyone. The lack of radio can be easily fixed. ABS is helpful but on the RS braking power is still stellar. As for the wing, it is functional, but not having has its advantages in terms of being more stealth, it definitely keeps the ricers and cops away. Having roll up windows along with manual door locks and mirrors can be a pain.

The positives though are the lightest curb weight of any Evo trim and of course a lower sticker price. You still get some of the other important feature, like ACD on the IX, Recaros, aluminum roof, triple gauges, etc.

No disrespect, but I think too many people are shifting focus to the previous unrelated comparison article between the VIII, RS and MR. If you guys could keep the discussion revolving around the specific article mentioned (the long-term test verdict... no link yet since it's not yet available online), that would be awesome, thanks.

Yeah, my bad, I kind of jacked your thread.

Please post a link of the article when it's published.
