Race Fuel...
 

I have a 2004 Evo 8 and Im going to be running Race fuel in it.. Is there anything I need to do to my car to run it safely or will it hurt it being leaded instead of unleaded? Thanks

what fuel are you going to be using?

leaded fouls up the spark plugs and cat/sensors

o2 sensors will go sooner than later. You will need to tune also.

There is a local gas station that sells Sunoco 110 octane leaded race fuel...I was also recommended to run VP c12. I am going to get my car tuned and I will probably only run maybe 5-10gallons a month and the rest of the time it will be 93octane. Is there any preventative maintence that I need to do or is there such a thing as unleaded race fuel?

I've run VP C12 (114 octane) with good success. I've also used VP 110 octane and C16 as well. C12 outperforms the 110 and is still reasonably priced too. the 110 is made for all-motor apps. C12 runs pretty rich, so you have to lean it out a little. If your gonna spend the money for the premium stuff, then just go with Q16..about same price as C16..but makes more power. {thumbup}

But even running those is there any problem that could occur? No problems with sensors or anything?

How much does it cost to replace all sensors that could be affected?... Spark plugs is no big deal but sensors I thought were a couple hundred bux...also how long should I expect to be running race fuel without any problems?

I dont know if this'll help u out much, but i have ran race gas in my car and i have no problems, of course the plugs went, but sensor wise nada, my buddy hs a evo 8, and we just put c-16 in 3 days ago, up to today, no problem

If you have a catalytic converter on your car DO NOT run leaded race gas at all.

If you have a test pipe, then you can run it - no probs. Only running 5-10 gallons a month you will be fine for quite a while before it affects your 02 sensors. . .

There IS unleaded race gas. VP MS109 is the best unleaded race gas out there. They also make 100, and 103 octane unleaded. . .

Some gas stations around here sell 100 octane unleaded right at the pump . . .

....after hundreds of gallons of 110 leaded I still haven't fouled a plug or killed an O2 sensor. I run a 50/50 mix of 93/110. Running straight 110 or C16 may cause accelerated aging of parts.

Word if you have a cat dont run leaded gas. My fuel of choice has been C12. I have ran a good 25-30 gallons straight. My factory o2 and wideband all are still working perfect{thumbup}

I use Q16 fuel made by VP....Do your research playboy

With any leaded race gas, the more often you use it, the more likely your oxygen sensors are going to deteriorate. I've ran leaded race gas probably for about 5 races now, and no ill effects to any sensors yet. I also have a buddy that has ran about 10 races and still on the same o2 sensor..that's on leaded C12 or C16.
