really bad day,, window's broken

I woke up this morning and found out my passenger side front window was completely shattered.

Some idiot high school kids apparently decided to steal my radar detector. :crap:

They were stupid enough to break my window and instead of pulling the cord out,
they just cut the cord which defeats the purpose of stealing it.

I have a billion glass shards all over my car stuck in every corner possible.

I vaccuumed most of it out, but i will probably never be able to get all of the fine shards out.

On top of that, my tuner's dyno just broke and I won't be able to get my final tune tomorrow.

How great is that, driving around in an evo with a broken glass and unable to boost for more than 3 weeks.

Bad things seem to follow me around lately....Nothing is working out for me.

Scum of society... ugh I hate thieves. I hope you have the luck of finding them and beating their faces in.

alloutDSM Jun 26, 2008 07:43 AM

man bro i feel your pain =( .... i had my gps stolen a month ago out of my truck.

theEVOdream Jun 26, 2008 07:54 AM

I know how you feel....had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back.

evilbada Jun 26, 2008 08:07 AM

question for you guys : How did you get all the fine shards out?

It seems impossible to get them out because they are so small and literally there is like a million of them.

Sorry to hear mate, just keep everything valuable out of sight. That's why I wont even upgrade my stock radio, its just not worth taking the risk. Put your detector in the glove box every day. Install turbo timer, boost controller, etc either inside your glove box or inside arm rest.
Low life bastards, but karma is a ......

Ya, I had my window smashed while I was at work with my old evo. **** sucked. I still found shards of glass even a year after it happened, and every now and then when you closed the door you could hear the little particles that you couldnt get with a vacuum.

Yeah i've been having a bad month myself... Been drivng my camry for the past 3 weeks. First i broke some pins in my parking brake while trying to remove the rear rotors, and 2 weeks later i finally fixed it. Then the next day (last sunday) i drove out and someone broke into my car through the passenger window as well and stole my gps. :( i reported to garmin so i hope those fools will try to send it in to garmin to unlock and i'll get my unit back. hopefully...

Took me a few hours to clean out all the glass make sure u wipe down the car with a damp cloth as well to get any little glass fragments that the vaccuum might've missed.

Thanks guys for the kind words...I really needed it..

The last 6months were pretty bad..

It will take hours to explain all my bad luck.

Here are some suggestions:

1. If you are going to keep your radar detector out I would suggest getting a strip of tint at the top of the windshield and place you radar detector there. Just ensure the tint doesn't have any metal in it. Also run your power cord through the top of the roof liner and down the weatherstripping in the door frame. I had to extend my power cable by splicing some wire on to it in order for it to extend that far.

2. DO NOT leave your valuables visible. GPS thefts are on the rise so if you have a GPS hide it when you are not in your car. I also attach my GPS behind the strip of tint so that when it leaves the round suction cup mark it is not visible from the outside.

As far as your shards of glass I would suggest removing your seats and using a shop vacuum. Just be diligent and patient and you should be able to get it all.

thieves i tell you!!! darn hoodlums.

Swap out the carpet, and put in orange plaid shag {thumbup}

I used one of those big wall mounted vacuums when some **** kid shot out the window in my old truck, and that got pretty much all of it out.

Things will turn up, don't worry. I'm sure that person will probably get theirs... karma is a *****.

Some dick broke into my car less than a month after I got it for my passport (in a gated condo complex and good neighborhood)... ripped the hardwire cord out and ran. Mind you, this was on the coldest day of the year, with a snowfall > 12 inches the next day. Guess what, tape doesn't stick when its -20f, so imagine how fun that was driving to get it replaced.... salt and snow all over my interior!

Then get this ****, they caught a guy who said he had broken into cars in my neighborhood later the next day with my ebay hardwire kit and exact radar detector. Since I didn't have the serial number on hand for it (only receipts, payment info, the original box and packaging, etc etc etc) the cops told me I could buy it back at police auction 3months later when no one else claimed it!

As far as the carpet goes it'll probably be a case of try, try, and try again. Just be very diligent moving the seats around and such. Vacuum before driving it if you can (most things will have fallen no further than gravity can take them) and just keep an eye out in the future. When my ford escort got broken into I was still finding glass in it 3 years later after many diligent cleanings. It's tempered so it *shouldn't* cut you, but it still can if you really try.

biggie5252 Jun 26, 2008 10:38 AM

You can try pressing tape down on the carpet, then pulling it up. That should help some. I had my car broke into twice over a year ago and I still occasionally find glass. Sorry about your luck.
