Why doesn't Mitsubishi factory install turbo timers?
I know that there is a really good reason that car companys dont manufacture the cars with a turbo timer, I was just hoping that you guys could refresh my memory on the subject. Thanks a lot

Liability? If the TT malfunctions or something or the car is stolen it could easily be blamed for serious issues (legal and mechanical). Plus they know the turbo will outlast the warranty anyhow.

Um my dealership is fine with turbo timers and said they will be putting them in the cars before they sell them in the future.
|
cost...?

Maybe Mitsubishi engineers decided a TT doesn't prolong turbo life and understood that parking the car in neutral and relying solely on the handbrake to keep it from rolling away was a really dumb idea.
|
In some states it is not legal.

Ya you cant steal the car just because it has a tt. what are you going to drive it down the street for 2 mintues until it turns off?

I thought that there was some kind of law against messing with the ignition system, I heard a really good explanition once before that made lucid sense, but I cant remember what it was!!!! Its driving me crazy!!

Well, if the car rolled off the line with a built in TT, they would be getting sued left and right. "I got a ticket for leaving my car running unattended." "I got out of my car while parked on an incline and it rolled away and hit another car."
Yes, people are stupid enough to do that stuff. DC went through lawsuits over the Jeep Wranglers because people would park them on an incline and walk away. Like I said, way too much liability. Josh |
Considering most recommend parking the car in gear for safety's sake.. A turbo timer would be useless.. And this is a constantly recurring argument.. Thanks to synthetic oil and the technology now used in bearings and other metal components.. a turbo timer isn't really needed.. Yes, its wise to let the turbo cool down a little after driving it hard by letting it Idle.. But that is NOT a common occurance.. Most of the time you've been driving around, park.. let the car idle for a few seconds and shut it off..
A turbo timer is a useless expense.. It no longer serves a useful purpose if your car is properly maintained.. In other words, if you drive your car hard.. let it idle for a few minutes.. otherwise don't worry about it. |

well some people don't have time to wait 3-10 minutes everytime they park the car

When I would tell them, they would get upset and act like it was stupid and a waste of time. Now, I just pull up somewhere and get out. When the girl says "wait, you forgot to turn your car off" I just tell her to shut her mouth and make me some pie. Josh |
Originally posted by The Emperor well some people don't have time to wait 3-10 minutes everytime they park the car My TT is auto set for at least 50 seconds of idle after shutoff. The higher the engine revs were, the more seconds are aded on to that 50 seconds. Even with the most aggressive driving I have done so far, I have only got the thing to read 2 min 30 sec on the gauge. Now, there was no way in hell I was going to shut the car down right then. I still cruised for like 3 minutes with the car in gear at about 2000 rpm's until I got to my destination, then the time was down to about 1 min 15 sec. At that point, I let the TT take over because I was at my destination. Josh |
