My Street Evo Build's MUST HAVEs
This is mainly MY OPINION, but I'd love to hear some discussion/disagreements for the car
For: a street/auto-x Evo, running 93 octane, I consider these pretty much MUST HAVE's for ANY street Evo Engine/Power: - TBE - typically not too much real variation in this as long as it's some sort of 3 inch pipe - should include catback, high flow cat, and downpipe - I use a Buschur one fitted for my JDM rear bumper. - O2 housing - not much to be said here, I use a Megan I don't prefer a dump, I think it's too loud - Intake - I prefer using a cone style, one with a dry filter, just one less thing to worry about - I use an Apexi something or other - Boost controller - I use a hallman RX pro, how much boost depends on the tune - Intercooler and piping - not too much variation here either, LICP is more important that a UICP for these cars, unless you want to run a small battery kit - Turbo - Probably a BBK Full or FPRed for the street, I think any bigger and it's not AS livable for day to day application - Cams - I think a pretty mild cam still makes a big difference - I use GSC S1's - Should get headstuds as well while you're doing this too - I got ARP headstuds - Fuel pump - probably a must if you're pushing more than 350whp - I have a walbro 255, makes a lot of whining noise though - Tune - of course the final thing is a tune - I gotta shout out for Tamer @ 4ws, he did a great job with my car - I think these are the biggest ones, I'm sure I'm forgetting something, and you can always do more for gains here and there. Drivetrain: - Transmission - For street Evos, I'd say the tranny itself is good enough, provided you have taken care of it - Clutch - for higher power levels, I'd probably say the overall best bet is gonna be an Exedy Twin for overall livability. A clutch fork stopper is a MUST HAVE for peace of mind. - Front LSD - I think the stock helical type up front is good enough for stock Evos (that have it), you can always get better but I don't think its a MUST HAVE imo - Center diff- I think the two biggest options are reprogramming it or upgrading/swapping it out (with like a 40:60). I think reprogramming it is the best bet here (Gruppe-S is the only one in America who does it, can get a street or race flash), it's way cheaper ~$350 and it retains all the ACD function. Big, big difference on how the Evo handles, exiting corners - Rear diff - I think the best/cost efficient option here is a Tre rear diff - 1 way or 1.5 way, upgrading it makes a huge difference on how the Evo handles as well. I think it's about ~$450 if you do the labor yourself, a MUST HAVE for Evos looking to improve handling - esp since our cars weren't equipped with SAYC. Suspension: - Springs/Struts/Coilovers - I went with a spring/strut combo because I was worried about salted roads - I think it's the best for cost efficiency. For springs I don't know if I'd go with anything other than robispecs, swift, or gtworx - other springs that significantly drop the car worsen the handling. Struts I went with bilstein HDs. Although, since I don't drive my car in the winter anymore I think if I could do it again I'd go with Robispec KW V3's - Bushings - I think this is a definite must have for CT9A Evos - a lot of suspension geometry issues that can be fixed/improved, and I don't think most Evos fix them. The set I got included rear bump steer kit, roll center adjuster, front control arm bushings and rear trailing arm bushings. If there's any other bushings you guys think are must haves for the Evo I'd love to hear it - http://www.speedelement.com/index.ph...mart&Itemid=38 this is the full set - Sway bars - I'm not really a big fan of sway bars - I think other things can be done before adding sway bars to finally customize the way your car drives, and not particularly a 'must have' There's more to get but I think these are the basic MUST HAVEs for a street/auto-x Evo. You can always get more power etc. Some other things I have that I really like about my car are shifter bushings, double din navigation with orbital hvac moved down to the cubby, a V1, etc. I have a bunch mods mods aside from the ones listed, but like I said it's just expansion for more power, and reliability mods with that increase in power I'd love input on anything else you guys think are MUST HAVEs! |
This is a must not have: clutch fluid restricter pill. Greatly improves clutch feel.

sort of, but I've geared this towards a more street car application, a little more specific

I'm not trying to argue with you or mess up your thread, but the other thread goes into far more detail on most of the topics you've covered. Just saying.
