What precautions should I take when my Evo hasn't been started in 6 months?

My Evo has a myriad of problems and I have no $$. It is parked behind my house. I read on another thread that running the car for 5-10 minutes every week is an alternative to a full winterization. I got a new battery and it turns over strong, but now the car doesn't start. My fluid levels are fine, but I imagine that fluids have drained out of the engine back to their reservoirs. What kind of priming/prep can I do to get it back going?

It will be going to AMS in due time, but my estimate for everything is about $6000 and I just don't have that now. Thanks for your help.

I would have changed the oil and filter out and put in fresh gas before I started cranking it over. But if it doesnt start, first thing to do the normal checks for spark and fuel.

i would think the alcohol in the gas may have evaporated. Put in some fresh gas and see if that helps. may need to purge the fuel system.

Is there an easy way to drain the gas tank?

Kracka Jan 25, 2010 10:28 AM

I believe there is a small drain bolt on the bottom of the tank, but a siphon pump will be the quickest way to do it.

When you get it fired up let it run for a few minutes then change out the oil and filter.

Do you here the fuel pump turn on??

MEVOLV3 Jan 25, 2010 11:11 AM

check the obvious:
-tire pressure/condition
-brake pads and rotors
-running lights
PLUS:
-fuel lines
-look for smoke on initial start-up
-coolant level
-compression test wouldn't hurt
-check plugs and wires
-fresh oil change w/filter

probably missed some...

Hope ur fuel pump didnt suck up any debris from the tank. It was sitting for a while.

No smoke on start up and I would not know what the fuel pump sounds like. Will it get going (like radio and windows) if I turn the key forward without cranking it?

It should turn on when you key on. It'll be a little whining noise that lasts for a few seconds.
