Who has read "Modifying Your Mitsubishi Powered DSM & EVO's 4G63 by David Peterson"?
 

And would you guys recommend it to people who want factual, cost effective advice about modifying their Evo's 8-9?

i read this, pretty decent book. I agree with most of it but you still can't take everything you hear/read without a grain of salt. Its much less sifting then the forums tho.

The book the OP brought up is supposed to be a good book. DB helped the author with that book.

I read the OP book, and I must say it was not worth the 20$ I paid for it. It was basically a history of DB's shop and a brief description of his upgrade stages. I read the whole thing in about 1.5 hours and it was basically a giant brochure for the EVO/DSM and DB's kits.
I was expecting some useful information about various upgrade paths, issues with reliability, bottlenecks, etc.
This book was none of that, it basically did not deviate from DB's upgrade components, and even these were superficially covered covered. Probably the most useful thing I learned is that a TP is a replacement for the Cat and its illegal on the road and that the stock Evo 9 turbo will make about 30hp over what a VIII turbo will.
In short, save your money, go to the website instead.

This book should be titled, "The History of the 4g63 and Variants."

The "How To Build" title is a misnomer. Also, how can they put an engine on the cover with the timing belt about to fall off?

Both books aren't bad, but as previously mentioned, the information you get from a GOOD forum can be an invaluable wealth of knowledge and is usually much more up to date on the technology that is out there and currently available. The problem with hard copy books is that once they are printed the information is already out of date, and in a hobby like ours, as well as computer science, that puts you behind the times. If you don't mind sorting through all the Bull Sh!t on a forum like this, you will be able to get some awesome information and stay up to date on all the latest advancements.

P.S. I have both of those books and many others, if you are just trying to expand your knowledge base then by all means read them but don't expect to hear about the most recent advancements available for our cars.

Because it looks sexy, and makes me wanna drive with mine off, so no one can see it turning with the hood down.

I agree. I have this book and was disappointed. It has a lot of good advice for earlier DSMs and evos, but for the evo 8 engine, they dont offer much advice for improvement.
