do the subaru 2.5's spool turbos faster then 2.0 evo's?
In general do the subaru 2.5's spool turbos faster then 2.0 evo's? If given the same size turbo for each car of course.
I would think the half liter extra would make noticably faster spool but not sure if the evo engine flows better thus making up for the smaller engine. any examples? |
Of course more displacement will spool a turbo faster. Search the site for examples of 2.3 strokers.

i had a 35r sti. hit 20 psi by 4,300 rpm in 3rd.

The Evo spools quicker. The Evo turbos are right on the outlet of the exhaust manifold. On the Wrx/Sti you have long unequal length headers and then an up-pipe to get to the turbo. Now one would argue that the intake track is shorter on the Wrx/Sti so the net-effect of boost getting into the engine is about the same. A lower mount intercooler on the Sti is FTL.

The EVO's turbo is also twin scroll so it may spool a little bit quicker if we were to be talking about a stock turbo here.

instead of arguing why doesnt someone post where a 2.0L evo spools a standard 35r evo at? im pretty sure its later than 4,300. especially with an open .82 t3 housing. btw, i also had a big front mount with a 2.75" charge pipe so a top mount would be quicker.

i feel the evo's spool quicker also. although we have an 06 wrx in the family, the boost doesn't feel anywhere near the pull of the MR.

no were not talking about stock turbos here. were talking about a scenario with same turbo on each car. to get a good comparison, we'd have to do aftermarket turbos, both undivided housings like gt30r or gt35r comparisons or billet 6262's. same turbo on each car
someone with a lot of time on their hands do some searching on spool times on http://forums.nasioc.com/ and post back here. im curious on how much of a difference there is |
well they have a 2.5L with a smaller turbo........ ......
