car won't start

So, just bought this Evo and I am having trouble getting the car to start.

Everything was working fine until I was sitting at a stop light and was not paying attention to the fact that I was in first. The stop light was really long and my leg was getting tired so I dropped my foot off the clutch. The car naturally died and when I tried to restart it, nothing was turning over. I then had to roll start it to get home. I was about to begin tearing through things to try to figure out what was wrong but then it started working again.

For the last couple days it was working fine. I drove to work this morning fine. Now, when I tried to go to lunch, the car won't start. No turning over from the starter or anything. There is a slight "whirring" sound coming from the engine bay but that is about it. I do not know if this sound is the starter or what.

I removed the clutch start switch wire connecter and that did not do anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe the battery could be dieing? Do the dash lights turn on?

The battery is only about a month old.

Also, all the electronics come on just fine.

Cold weather can kill a battery even if it's new if perhaps you got a bad battery. Test the charge, it will be the battery.

Maybe your alternators on its way out if your battery is new.

The battery is reading 12.59 Volts DC as of this moment.

Fought a no start issue on my car for a year. Starter, alternator, battery, relay and fuses were good. I replaced the two electronic switches by the clutch and still no dice. The culprit turned out to be my throwout bearing....

If there was a problem with the throw-out bearing, would I even be able to operate the clutch to drive the car. Such as, I can roll-start the car if I have to.

check the ground on your starter

Is there a quicker way to do this than removing the lower engine cover, removing the downpipe and removing the starter cover?

chaotichoax Dec 7, 2010 03:10 PM

a mirror and a flash light from the top down?

I forgot some people actually use their undertrays hhaha

Check the grounds on your battery as well.

I had the same problem and it was just loose negative terminal on my battery.

let me know asap what u did to fix the problem bc my evo ix just did the same thing. I check my COP system and swapped to stock coils, changed spark plugs even went as far to change back to my stock fuel pump. Still no luck at all. Mine does crank and turn over but does not start.

Have you drove the car in cold weather since your last tune?

OP, when mine made the buzz sound, it did not click or try to turn over and the starter was gone. How many miles on the car? My starter went around 40000 miles. Probably died early from trying to start the car with a mini battery in cold weather, you could have done the same thing with a weak stock battery. GL

you check if your neutral safety switch is working right?
