Evo as a trailer hauler?

Ok, who use their Evo to haul trailers and stuff. Can Evo be used as a hauler especially with a turbo engine.

Found this at AMS.

In the manual, it specifically says that it is not recommended to ever tow anything behind the car. It isn't designed for a trailer hitch, and I seriously doubt that you will ever find a Class 2, let alone a Class 3 hitch for these cars.

I would just stay away from the idea for numerous reasons.

The biggest one I could see is....well, the clutch seems to not like extra weight and still try to throw down all the torque. I've read about numerous people that have slipped their clutch both alone and with other passengers in the car, and they all say that with the extra passengers (extra weight) the clutch slips a lot longer and that just can't be good. Now, I doubt you will be doing any spirited driving with a Uhaul trailer hooked up, but still.....

OK.. I'M ONE OF THE RETARDS LOOKING TO PUT A HITCH ON MY EVO. I DON'T FEEL LIKE TEARING UP THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. BASICALLY I WANT TO PULL AN EXTRA SET OF TIRES AND A TOOL BOX ON A SMALL TRAILER. LESS THAN 500PDS. VERY INSIGNIFICANT. I DON'T CARE IF THE SCIENTIST SAY ITS NOT MADE FOR THAT OR NOT. DOES ANYONE KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS INSTALLED ONE ON THEIR EVO, AND WHAT THEY HAD TO DO TO MODIFY IT. THOE99 THANKS FOR SHARING THE COOL MOVIES. {thumbup}

Just to clarify whatever ^^^ was, people put small trailers on cars like the Evo when they autocross them, to carry tires and tools and stuff...I'd venture to say that's why AMS has a hitch too...

I built a class 1, the 1 1/4" receaver, for may EVO. The only thing you see is the receaver. It works great and not like your going to two a car trailer with a car on it. Every one else that got them from me seem happy, but every one needs to make there own decision.

yeah as long as its not heavy... but why are you worried about tearing up the inside? i mean its only tires with no sharp edges.. just lay a sheet of plastic.. kinda big garbage bags... and you'll be fine... thats wat i did when i brought my winter tires to be mounted no my evo one day

Rallytrack thats a nice job, and exactly what I'm wanting to do with it. How did you mount it? Did you have to buy a class I and cut it? Would you build another to sell? {thumbup}

but why are you worried about tearing up the inside?
mifesto, Its just not something I want to be fooling with every time I go to a track event. Eventually hauling tires on the back seat is going to put wear on the interior. I'd rather have a small trailer, mount a diamond plate tool box to it, have my extra set of wheels and tires and be done with it. Hook it up jet out, un-hook and your done. The hell with bagging, putting plastic its just an extra hastle.

Thanks for the comments..

A receiver would be the best way to mount a bike rack too. I don't trust roof racks.

evo's are good for hauling :drink: :spit:

There's a device, and I'm not yet findin' the link, that goes on a hitch and is specifically designed to carry tires/wheels. It's not a trailer, per se, more a tire carrier, like a bike carrier... hope to find the link soon and share...

There are plenty hitch based racks like the one below that are used for tires,ice chests, storage boxes. See pictures below. They have these all over in Louisiana to carry ice chests, and even bar-b-que pits. Not my preference though some may consider that as a option.

Yes! The Tire Tail - they have 'em for Miatas and WRXs - time for them to have an Evo model, eh? Damned cost-effective as well!
