Why do some OEM turbos have # stamped and other's dont?

I am in he market for a used/new IX turbo. I see some pictures on vendor sites with no part numbers on the rectangular area on the cold side under the intake hole (https://www.turbowholesale.com/catal...H-p-5033.html#), other sites do have part numbers stamped there
http://www.turbochargers.com/store/p...e8f1ce0235a566.

Are the ones w/o # a Chinese knockoff?

I am not asking about these particular sites, i am just asking why some have part numbers stamped and other turbos dont (i am talking to a private seller who has a used one w/o #'s on it).

You can always play it safe to be sure and stick with what has #'s stamped.

+1 with sticking to buying one with numbers. Chances are if it does not have the numbers it is not a genuine mitsubishi turbo.
