Tire change to rage!! SAM's Club

Took car to SAM's club to get new set of 235 40zr18 Fierce Instinct ZR's mounted. Went on with my SAM's list for the family groceries and what not. Car was done in under a hour, bravo SAM's!! Went out and loaded groceries and daughter into car and started car and backed out of square. Put car into first at tried to roll out with my new grip, but the car died! WTF is in my head cause my daughter is in back set. Started it again and tried to roll out again and it died as soon as I put it under any type of load. Started a 3rd time a rev'd it a few times and it seemed fine. Tried to pull out again and it died. Was able to get back into parking square and walked to maint bay and said who worked on my car? Guy was like me why? I told him I can't keep car running. he came out and wasted about an hour looking around trying different things, it finally dawned on me these guys are not mechanics. Still not know what issue was I went to get manager. Manager tries to get off hook by say "Well I dont know what you want me to do about it, its not our car its yours so your issue" Yea well that didnt work out well for her as I proceeded to embarrass her in front of about 10 people, with it ending by her saying let me make a phone call. In the mean time I am going through all possibilities of what they could have possibly F'd during a tire change. I call my brother who is mechanic and his first recommendation was check speed sensor and make sure they are connected and leave car run to see if anything trips CEL. So I have tech lift my car back up and see both tech staring at front of engine bay, I walk over and low and behold there is a 5 inch tear in the LICP, bent FMIC flange and scraps across bottom of bumper. So how could someone done this much damage and not know? They knew they were playing dumb and just parked my car and hoped all would be well. Moral of Story dont leta under qualified jackass touch your baby. They are covering all damages plus as I spent my money to tow home and pull front bumber off to get FMIC and LICP off and replace with stockers I still had.

That's when I stopped reading.

Fierce is actually a Goodyear Eagle GT. Decent tire. Costs less since not under GY name.

But crappy shop totally ran the car into the lift. Contact Sams - they owe for that.

Tire is great for price, although I havent thoroughly road tested:)

I would never let Sam's club, pep boys, walmart or any other chain mutlipurpose store touch my car. If its not a regular car they can abuse they'll scrape your rims take tires off, putting tires on, dents, and in this case damage your IC.

Buy the tires and go to a shop that does it for a living, Big 10, Discount Tire etc.

Thats been my experience anyways.

Smike Jun 27, 2011 12:48 PM

Issue is shop, not tire. :)

Get tires from Tire Rack. Take car to someone who will do it right. Call it a day.

All tires for my cars come from Tire Rack the difference is who puts them on. For the evo I only go to one guy who costs more but does a great job and come recomended for cars that you really care about.

The beaters tires are put on by the other guys.

This is why you should document the mileage before and after you take the car to a shop as well.

FERNO Jun 27, 2011 01:34 PM

man that sucks.

I hope they fix your ride to your satisfaction.

I wish I could stop everyone who cares about their vehicles from going to Sam's, brakes for less, jiffy lube, et al. Most people don't realize that they (for the most part) don't employ mechanics! These are regular joes off the street with little to no training, knowhow or ability. Sad thing is, while they probably realized they ran aground, I'm sure they didn't even know that the damage they did was what was causing the driveability issue. The old addage "you get what you pay for" really holds true when you drive an EVO.

This is why you take your car to someplace that isn't a ****ing re-badged Wal-Mart. As a former employee of DTC I can tell you there's a difference between a GROCERY store that just happens to sell tires and a REAL TIRE STORE.

Good luck getting Sam's to pay for anything.

Live and learn, and may this stupidity be a warning to anyone else who thinks it's a good idea to buy tires from a ****ing bulk grocery store.

SmurfZilla Jun 27, 2011 02:43 PM

Yeah is Sam'S Club going to fix it? WHen I owned a type R and just moved to the States I made the mistake of Pep Boys repalce one tire for me and they absolutely butchered my wheel (championship white). Manager told me to kick rocks......I almost kicked the rocks into his face.

I was really young there. I wish someone would try that with me now that I know better.

GotBoOst05 Jun 27, 2011 03:33 PM

I would have watched them put the car on the lift and watch them do everything else.....
