Best Bang for $ on Exhaust Manifold?

Hey guys, I want to upgrade the exhaust manifold without spending a grand and I'm wondering what realistic gains I'd be getting on a Toxic Fab/ETS style exhaust manifold over a ported/coated stock one? The Toxic Fab/ETS style sell for $850+ and porting a stock one costs like $300.

I hear that if you port the stock exhaust you'll gain like 10hp and spool a little faster. The guys at ETS say you should use a 1.25" runner if you're putting under 600hp and a 1.5" if you're over 600hp. I'm at 420 or so. The guys at Toxic Fab sell a 1.5" runner and say you'll gain as much as 27hp 15-20tq on stock evo 9 turbos. Does anyone have any experience with this and is it really worth the extra $500 for 17 more hp from a ported stock exhaust manifold? I'm at the point in my car where any modifications for 10-20hp will cost a lot of money. I just want to eliminate lag and spool faster so something here needs to be done. Thanks in advance!!

I can't give you the best answer, but here is my .02.

The stock manifold already performs really well, and porting them will not make much difference IMO. I (gasket match) ported my stock 8 exhaust manifold and there was really not much to be done to improve it.

That being said, What turbo are you running now? Stock 9? What are your final HP goals?

I think this about says it all if you are already at 400hp.

I have a shearer fab manifold on my evo but i'm running a GT35R turbo so spool sucks no matter what.

Go on ebay and pick up a MAP style short runner manifold for $350. I'm almost certain they are made by the same people. (GTspec, MAP short runner, Tomei, and ebay. All same manifold.)

In terms of getting a good quality manifold for a good price I was looking at MAP Short Runner Tubular Stock Replacement Exhaust Manifold. It's $449 and I think it'll do what you are looking for without having to drop the ball. Shop around, you can prolly match power with a good tune. :beer:

Shoot Collin or I a PM if you have any questions about our manifolds!! {thumbup}

Buschur porting is 100 bucks. It will do the job. Unless you are over the 500whp mark, I would not even waste the money on a diferent mani. Just let buschur port the manifold and the turbine housing, then take the money you saved and buy more parts.

Our manifold doesn't have the anti-lag provisioning and there is a good reason for that (when you block them off they build up heat and cause cracks).

OP: Here is some data for you :)

^ right there is why you should save your money. there are barely any gains even on the fp black on e85.

Also I had my Intake Manifold ported my MAP, and wow it looks amazing. MAP does some awesome porting.

I am pretty sure on pumpgas cars the Exhaust manifold porting will make more of an impact but E85, you really just need some cheap porting to help incease the flow.

i have a ported and coated stock one and have been very happy with it. I wish i had the maps with before and after tunes on it. noticed it held boost a little longer and gained a little bit. costs much much less then a tubular one. it just doesn't look all fancy like the tubular ones do.

True, and you offer a warranty and i'm sure you ported the welds in the collector better than these guys did. It adds up... i kno... {thumbup} I was just throwing up another option.

I did not buy my manifold from PowerPlus. Mine actually fit perfectly fine, minus it needed some porting around the collector. Outside of that, it helped my SSL run 11.8 on pumpgas on an old school 20g.
