Got the car street tuned today....what's next?

Got my evo 8 street tuned on pump gas stock turbo with the boost holding at 21-22 psi. It's pulling hard for a stock turbo car, but the tuner says with my setup and adding an aftermarket fmic, bigger injectors, already has a walbro 255 running on e-85 he can get it up around 420 with everything tuned right. I'd be happy with that. He says we can run like 35 psi of boost, I didn't realize a stock turbo would run that kind of boost and hold.

35 is to much, and i need your mod list to respond to his 420 claim.

you can break 400 on stock fmic on e85 also on a stock turbo.

For sure 35PSI sounds very sketchy for a stock long block motor.

An EVO8 will need a set of cams (& all supporting mods) & maybe a bigger turbo to get to the Dyno Jet no. of 420 IMO

On a stock head, I wouldnt feel safe at boost levels above 27-28PSI

Hks 272's, map o2 eliminator down pipe external waste vent, ported mani, full 3" turbo back test pipe, upper and lower piping, intake pipe, hks bov, greddy ebc, innovate lc1 wb. Think thAts most important stuff.

CurseDSM Dec 26, 2011 06:27 PM

Don't go any of that hks cams and bov crap. If your gonna do it go with something that will give you gains. GSC cams or Kelfords, Buschur cams. BOV if your gonna do sd or even keep it recirced go tial.

Sir. What is that supposed to mean

I was tring to come up with something cleaver and entertaining to say but I couldn't think of anything. Being my car is on stock motor and all. So for the sake of sounding like a dick I just quoted you and said oops being I make pretty good power on stock motor

gpfury86 Dec 26, 2011 06:38 PM

All Ive done to this car so far was clean everything up and put some piping on it. The hks bov is kind of ricer vented external, eventually if I go bigger turbo setup I'll use a tial and recirc. The way the car pulls now it's fun, I just wouldn't mind having the extra power and boost u can run with e-85. Intercooler and injectors are pretty cheap for around 50 hp imo. Only thing I don't really like is just how quick the stock turbo spools and spikes sometimes. Btw all that stuff I listed is already on the car. Also I understand u don't need an aftermarket ic to make the power, I just want a more efficient one come summer.

Ok, That makes the 2 of us.

My 9 motor is totally stock (no cams). Im on the alcohol & running 27.5 PSI w/all the supporting external mods. DynoJet no.s are 407/402

No way the OP'S 8 motor makes it to 420 w/ a lot more work than what we've done to the MIVEC motor & 35PSI is not efficiently possible

Joe

EDIT: Didnt realize you had an RS. Post up some pics in the RS Gallery when you can.

CurseDSM Dec 26, 2011 07:50 PM

Joe, I think it would depend on alot of things. I agree though 35 psi is way to much for a stock turbo even on e85, but with a better fmic, good cams, good tune with all the other bolt ons, I am sure he could be pretty close at lower boost.

I didnt think It was really efficiently possible either, was just goin by what my tuner said, he's got a 930 hp evo 9 so I tend to believe what he says.:dunno: he might mean more like 30 but he just said we would have to adjust the waste gate rod to give us some more boost pressure and be able to run like 35 psi I don't know if he meant that's What were gonna tune it to, just that it would be able to go that high.

Messing with the wg actuator isn't gonna help your boost level, it will keep the wg from opening to soon letting your turbo to not make the power at the given spring rate. This means instead of opening at say 15 lbs of boost, it will stay closed to say 20 or whatever allowing the turbo to continue to make the power up till that pressure and not allowing it to excape at 15.

Didn't u just contradict yourself? The longer the waste gate stays closed the harder it spins the turbo and the more boost u make.... Do I need a stiffer spring then? Right now with the boost controller turned up as high as it will go it will only make like 25-26 psi..... Although I really didn't stay in it for the whole rpm curve to see if it would stay there but it held there for a good bit.

CurseDSM Dec 27, 2011 08:19 AM

No wont spin harder just spins longer without dumping air out the wg being it is staying closed longer. It is makeing power and not wasteing it basically.
