P0011, I'm confused but it's a simple question
 

My IX threw this code the other day while driving under light load. Did some research on it an a P0011 is "A" Camshaft position Timing Over Advanced. I'v read that this code can trip after installing cams but my car is pretty stock. I put the stock exhaust back on in place of my 3" TBE for a fix it ticket. I plan on taking it to the dealer after reflashing to stock but in the meantime is this safe to drive with? Havn't fixed the knock that comes stock with the car so if i smash i wouldn't know what's happening since my CEL flashes a few times during a run already. So yes i'm asking, can i still drive like i stole it or is it time to enable granny mode?

Typically when an Evo 9 throws this code it's actually happening whereas on an 8, it's more of a ghost code.

Have you checked your cam sensor? Or done any diagnostic work to try and see if there's an actual problem?

The answer is essentially... you can do what you want, but if your car is saying it has a problem, and you decide you don't want to see if it actually has one, then when it blows up, don't be surprised.

No, I havn't checked anything yet because I wasn't sure where to look. I heard the timing belt could have skipped a tooth but i'v also heard cleaning the OCV an/or AVCS will fix. What should i be looking for if i pull the cam sensor? Also does anyone know where exactly the OCV an AVCS are located, or what they do?

I have no idea what the OCV or AVCS are.

I would pull the plug off the sensor carefully, and check to be sure that the connections are good. If the sensor was bad, you wouldn't be getting spark, so you could check spark on all cylinders.

It's also worth checking your timing marks just to be sure... how many miles are on the car, and when was your timing belt last changed?

Is the car running abnormally?

normally this is seen more often after a cam swap but if your cam angle sensor is bad it will throw this code. Also it will be thrown of timing is off or you somehow jumped s tooth on your cams. Also oil pressure going from the oil feed line being clogged will cause this too.

Which oil feed line are we talking about? The car has a little over 60k, did the timing belt a few thousand miles ago so i know that it's good. I ran the car today at WOT an noticed my boost has dropped just under 1 bar. Before it would be close to 1.5. Can timing or a clogged feed line cause a drop in boost? I know the boost drop sounds really weird but it just started happening today. The code went on yesterday. There are no out of the norm sounds happening either.
