harness predicament-what's the safe option?
So, I bought my EVO IX MR with a harness bar already installed but no harnesses installed. The previous owner gave me 2 corbeau 5 point harnesses new, unused to go with the bar that I have not installed. The dilemma is that I have read that aftermarket harnesses are not safe however, after doing a track day in the evo with the stock 3-points I have found that its literally impossible to left foot brake or use my right foot at all without using my left foot as a brace against the firewall in corners. So basically I see a safety hazard either way I go unless there is a safe harness I can use without needing new seats and a full roll cage.
any thoughts would be appreciated thanks! |
There's already been some very good threads on this subject. So, I hate to say it but you need to search. All the information you need is here.

A lot safer than using a 5 point harness with no bar.
Take this with a grain of salt; but it being unsafe I think is directed towards anyone in the back seat. |

learn to lock your 3 point (move the seat all the way back, take up all the slack in the waste belt then slide the seat forward) or get a 4 point that uses the rear seat belt attachments.
problem with the harness bar is it keeps you upright in a rollover but provides no protection from roof collapse. |

OK, I think I will be investing in some schroth harnesses then. They have anti-submarine technology and they allow the use of the back seats with quick-disconnects. Not to mention they are DOT approved.
