Optima Red Top won't fit...what can I do?

Had many issues with my vehicle over the winter and now starting to fix them...the last one to get it running though is this. I have almost no room for the battery and my positive/negative connections are too stiff to even reach the battery properly. The positive and negative are also in the opposite positions of the battery and won't reach either way. Below are pics for better explanation. Bad with technical terms XD.

If my only choice is to route it into my trunk, how much does that cost and how long would it take? I kind of need my car to be running ASAP.

Definitely looks like the wrong battery. If you cant exchange it for the correct one then yes, you can relocate your battery to the trunk.

Pricing depends on how you want to set it up. I believe I payed a bit over $100 for the 0 gauge cables, roughly 13 feet, and all the connections and what not.

There are many ways to route your wiring and many ways you can mount the battery. There are a few threads on here that have pics of different members' trunk mounted battery setups, including mine. If you do need any help on what to do send me a pm Ill guide you through it. Its a little time consuming but its actually pretty easy.

Sounds like the terminals are reversed.

Compared to the task of relocating the battery, taking it back for an exchange is much easier/cheaper.

If that isn't possible, then your simple battery replacement just a lot more expensive. Make sure you do it right and if you plan to do any autox or other motor sports, there are SCCA regulations regarding trunk mounted batteries.

What would I replace it with if I could? Any idea of which battery would have them reversed?

There are different styles of red tops.

Oooh I did not know that. This is my first time changing my battery XD. I got the Optima if that even matters at all.

I would just get another battery that fits in the engine bay.
You can relocate it into the trunk, but thats way more of a hassle and way more expensive than just getting the correct battery.

Use a cut-off wheel - it'll fit.

??

Yea I might just get a new battery..gotta wait until Monday though which is lame.

Just go back and get the right one or get them or order the correct one. I made the same mistake when I got my first Optima red top....got the one with terminals the wrong way. 2nd one was the correct way but too big. The one you want for the Evo VIII/IX is the Type 35. You'll need to put the battery on the the bracket that comes with it (think the Type B is the one).

What a lot of guys forget when they relocate the battery to the trunk - if you plan to drag race, autox, or road race at official events, you'll need to install a battery shut off switch to pass tech.

and be easily accessible from outside the car body. Might take some creativity to think of a spot that isn't sticking out in plain sight.

Crazy clean set up. I think I might do that if I can't get the right battery tomorrow!
