Hi guys,

I'm shopping for an aftermarket in tank pump for the evo IX…

Ive mentioned about the Walbro 255 recently that is almost a yin & yang when it comes to EVOs….

firstly, does anyone know or has experienced what limits the Stock IX OEM pump can withstand?

apparently I've heard they can flow up to 200L ph….

and my local evo mechanic reckons that i don't need an upgrade if i was to run basic bolt ons like Dump, turbo/back Exhaust, 22 psi, air pod & tune…..
(and that the EVO IX pump has heaps more capacity than the VIII)

is this true?

if so…and the pump can withstand more than that….then i may leave the pump then.

otherwise if NOT… then ill upgrade higher than a 255L to either be a bit different and to possibly get something next size up to build more of a foundation.

let me know your past experiences guys.

If I'm not mistaken AMS did a comparison of all pumps available ( several years ago). new ones are on the market like DW, that flow more--. Search is your friend, you will see plenty of write ups and comparisons. or check the ams website-- or google it.

The IX pumps do flow more than the VIII's you'll need to search to find the exact value. With what you have listed above you probably can get away with the IX pump but the 255 for sure will be the most you need....you don't need more than that. Now if you like most folks get the bug and want to change the mods then all bets are off.

Well… looks like Aeromotive 340 for me… (are they a direct swap over of the OEM like the Walbros? and will the OEM wiring harness support 16Amp)

too bad there is not supporting chart for the OEM pump performance

I just installed a new aeromotive 340 two weeks ago. So far so good except in the papers that came with the pump they strongly recommend running a full voltage rewire kit. Apparently the pump will not flow 340 with stock wiring but I already had a full voltage rewire kit installed so no problems for me. Also I have an aftermarket FPR and even with that I couldn't get the idle afr any lower then 11-12 afr's. Then I drilled out the siphon tube in the hanger assembly with a 1/8" drill bit and now I'm able to control the fuel pressure with the regulator again. If you are planning on massive upgrades then the 340 is a great pump. If you're planning basic bolt ons you REALLY don't need anything more then a walbro 255. Search how to mod the walbro and then you can really take advantage of that 255 pump. It's super easy to mod for more flow.

Installed walbro 255 five month ago. It's make lot noise after I drive hard

I personally like the noise of my walboro, people ask what it is and I tell them my fuel pump and they're like "oh"

I never answered your original question lol. Yes the 340 is a stock drop in replacement option. Same plug as the walbro and stock unit. Just make sure the bottom of the pump is red. If the bottom of the pump is white then it is an older aeromotive and the polarity is reversed. They fixed the design though. Makes the install slightly harder but if its got a red bottom its plug n play. It will be red probably because the old ones are from 2 years ago, I just wanted to make sure you knew if it comes white then its reversed polarity.

Yeah im not keep on the Noise of the 255 Walbro.

If its really 90 decibels…

im wondering what the stock one is… as you can't hear it.

must of been a big job to rewire the harness?

i don't think id pretty much bother with wiring, i wish the products page for those other pumps stated something like "this product recommends the replacement of wiring"
rather than "yeah it flow this and flows that… e.g $130 - add to cart"

and then you receive it and its written as a warning on the package.

Every walbro I have ever used sounds like that. 4 of them over the years and every single one was loud as hell. Although some people on here will tell you they don't hear it or their walbro is quiet but I have never had that experience. On a related side note the aeromotive is quiet as a mouse :)

Have you experienced the Aeromotive without upgrading the wiring?

i don't really wanna mess with the stock harness at this stage.

Well, i guess its like people who live in front of a train line, after a while… they don't even notice it :lol:

I have not run the aeromotive with stock wiring. I assume it would be "fine" but again right in the directions it says really big "STOP" Run this pump with rewire kit blah blah blah. I still think that you will over run the stock FPR with this pump though. I'd be more concerned with getting an aftermarket FPR installed first then a full voltage rewire kit using this pump. The stock pump flows 190 and the aeromotive flows 340. That's a huge freaking difference and I would say the stock FPR is going to be at the end of its capabilities at that flow rate.

if Aeromotive are that anal with wiring… then i might go one lower than 340L.

however, what regulator do you suggest?

Are regulators a matter of simple replacement.. as well as a professional tune?
