Heat Shield Under Car? OK to remove? OK to use heat wraps?
Ok I have a 2003 mitsubishi lancer 8 mr. I've been having the infamous rattle under my car so a couple of questions I have. Keep in mind all parts in car are stock.
http://www.mitsubishipartswarehouse.com/media/images/oe/collision/6/6265125.gif If you look at the diagram in the link if I'm not mistaken the heat shields there by the part 1 in the picture on the front pipethat are causing the rattle from wear etc but lost part of it on the road one day. The rattling was worse afterwards. So questions stand. Can I just remove the ones rattling? If not can I remove it and use that thermal tape I've been hearing about? If so which one is best to use? Finally if its best to keep the heat shields on what is the part number? Thanks in advanced! I also apologize if I didn't post this in the right category/if this has already been posted **edit diagram link fixed** |
I may go under the car later today to check and take pics or it may be another day if it'll help

Couldn't see the pic in the link. Regardless, I wouldn't remove the heatshield. Use a prybar to slightly bend it out of the way, as to stop the rattle. Been there with my exhaust. Good luck.

For some reason the picture in the link is not showing for me, but you could take the heat shield off and apply some thermal protection to the body of the car around where the pipe goes.

Oops here's the fixed link.

Thanks for the reply! Like bend it away from the pipe? I may try this option
