What timing belt should I go with for 850-900hp

Swapped my cams for some s3's... Got a new turbo set up going on and planning to hit the dyno after... Obviously the timing belt is off. It appeared to be a NAPA timing belt? In good shape but I don't think I should run that.

So for 8-900 hp what's a good belt to use?

Is oem still good for those kind of numbers? Or should I go with an aftermarket Kevlar? Does an evo 9 oem belt work? Input would be great as I wanna get one on order ASAP!

Again I'm talking about for my car (evo 8) at 800+ hp... What's your guyes input or experience at this power and what u ran???

That's what I was thinking I've herd good and bad about the Kevlar belts... I'm not worried to much about longevity of the belt as I won't drive the car much just don't want it to stretch or snap on me

^post boosting? Anyhow, get an OEM evo 9 belt.

EvolutionX9817 May 25, 2015 06:40 AM

Yes oem 9 belt was what I'm gonna get on order. Should do the job well. Thanks guys!!!

Kevlar belts man, Oem are nice but they aren't supportive enough plus they stretch over time.

It is you guys money not mine and no not all belts stretch. Kevlar does not stretch that's why they are a pain in the balls to put on. I mean if you guys wanna change belts every so often have at it but I have had my Kevlar belt on since 08 and hasn't stretched at all since its been on the car. Idk about you guys but building a motor isn't cheap.

OEM or Gates.....whatever you can get your hands on.

Thanks for all of the input, I've been in the evo game for some time now. Purchased another one about a month ago, 05 fully built slappin on this 6466 and some new s3 billet cams. Like I said it had a napa timing belt on it :/ that deff has to go. But while I got the car apart it would be a good idea to have an oem belt on there, or gates herd good things on both! So the evo 9 Kevlar belt will work on my 8 right? Again I appreciate all of the input. It's good to have a place I can ask a question and not get trolled lol I want everything to be done right the first time. I've had timing go before and it's more costly than just buying the right belt for the car the first time!!!!

if you must have a kevlar belt, i have an extra. it's HKS or Greddy. i foget which. whichever is purple LOL. anyway, it has just a few miles on it. it's yours for $50 shipped, if you want it.

No, the Evo 9 has Mivec and uses a different timing belt. You can order a full timing kit from STM. ExtremePSI would also probably carry one and usually they have good pricing.

Be careful with STM, they sometimes send you the wrong part. I've gotten a few VIII parts instead of IX. That would be a big mistake if you got the wrong timing belt and didn't notice.
Now that I think about it, I should check mine LOL. I think I got out from Rock Auto instead. If so I'm golden.
