Snapped ac knob
So it was pretty cold this morning and I turned the ac knob from cold to hot. It's pretty damn stiff when it's cold but I just turned that sucker hard and where the knob connects to the white piece behind it snapped. Now what piece is that so I can swap it out and is it a huge pain?

It's not a huge pain, but it will take about 20 to 30 minutes. Mitsubishi doesn't sell that part alone, but now there is an Ebay seller who has gone through the trouble of making it through injection molding.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mitsubishi-...AAAOSw241YcFxo You have to disconnect the mix box and air direction cable, the harness for the center blower motor speed control knob, another harness that connects to the PCB below it, and a few screws. Pay attention to how you remove the old one or you will be making adjustments for a while. There is a black ring with a tab that goes on that stem which activates the Max AC mode. That black ring has to be moved over to the new stem. There videos on youtube on how to do this as well. Keep in mind that this will not fix the real problem, which is most likely the mix box door binding behind the dash. That is a much bigger project, but try changing the external gears and cables first. Good luck! |
Fix the problem not the symptom; replace or lubricate your blend door track.
Dirty/old blend door track causes high resistance causes binding/kinking in cable causes knob failure. Replacing the knob/shaft alone won't make it easy to turn, just bring you back to the condition you were in before it broke. |

Thanks for the responses everyone.
