Query about buying an Evo 8 "what's the leak?"
I was looking at an evo today and the car started leaking a reddish fluid onto the down pipe closer to passenger side. The power steering fluid was empty but didn’t know if it was that or trans fluid. Leaking from here here in the pictures i believe, the power steering fluid reservoir was almost empty, called my local tuner and he said it's probably steering fluid, but he wasn't there and didn't see pictures, so i am here to ask you guys! https://imgur.com/a/oSHhogr link to pics Car runs good, i plan to invest some money in the car to make it more street friendly. 500hp tuned by Tom @ TSCOMPTUNED in PA -GT3076r Turbo w/heat wrap set at 27-lbs of boost -GSC S2 Cams with titanium beehive springs -Synapse Engineering Diverter Valve -TIAL Wastegate -Road Race Engineering custom turbo manifold w/exhaust wrap -ACT 6 puck racing clutch -Muse short route intercooler piping -Evo 6 aluminum radiator -STM Tuned short ram air intake -Speed density OMNI 4bar sensor -STM Tuned port & polished air intake manifold -Buschur 55mm ported throttle body -AMS Fuel Rail -Spoolinup Coil On Plugs -AEM Adjustable Cam Gears -Clear Cam cover -EGR delete -Fortune Auto shocks w/custom Japanese springs (adjustable stiffness) -Scorpion 2-lb 650CCA Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4) small battery -Grimmspeed EBCS -Evo 9 Front Bumper -FRP VS Style Trunk Spoiler Fit (lso have stock) -Carbon Fiber front lip (not pictured) -Pirelli Tires -Custom exhaust w/gasketless v-band clamps -Test pipe in place of Catalytic Converter |
Bump posted link, let me know the car has some nice mods on it really good price, but a few blemishes.

Looked at the pics but not sure what its trying to show. Is there fluid leaking from the axle shaft seal?
I say, go for it, but make sure you get some type of money consideration for this leak. Anything can be fixed but it will cost some monies to do it. I guess, the leak location must be confirmed & then you can negotiate a fair discount of the issue  |
I believe it is leaking from the gold area on the right of the rusty boot

Yeah, looks like this seal here at the TC housing. Pretty sure that seal can be replaced w/out too much trouble

^^^ beat me to it
thats the axle seal for the transfer case. The T.C. doesn't hold too much fluid and if it runs low it dies. My concern wouldn't be so much on the seal replacement because that's easy, but the actual condition of the tcase. |
That seal is not too hard to change. IMO, the hardest part is getting the old seal out. The OEM part # you need for a new seal is MD758763

my transfer case hasn't blown up yet, so I haven't really gone down that rabbit hole. I'm pretty sure the trans fluid does get circulated through the tcase, so it could be trans fluid. Either way its bad though the trans needs all its fluid too.

is it just me? or does that axles shaft look like its not in all the way.

Firing up my foggy memory, a few years ago if you went to Advance Auto for an axle you got one that almost fit but always leaked. That might be what we're looking at here.
