Where's the Big Turbo Low Off Sound?
I'm not an engineer, so can someone explain why this high powered turbo motor has a bird like 'cheep-cheep' whistle sound
..... instead off a massive turbo blow-off waste gate sound? |
The cars have different diverter valves.

Probably the Anti Lag as well?

The red car has rally anti lag. The throttle never closes and it uses ignition timing to control rpm. The chirping you're hearing is the compressor barking/surging because it goes into surge for a second when the engine slows down but the turbo hasn't slowed down with it. That's what you hear on the wot upshifts as well, just one chirp on the upshifts though. On a car like that, the turbocharger is considered a consumable part, like brake pads and tires...

Over the anti lag, I can hear the noise OP is talking about. It's also possible the car isn't running a DV. I've heard waste gates make that exact noise when no DV is installed.
No no, im w/ya. Im familiar w/these Euro tunes & the chirps the turbo makes. As Sean noted, its likely just the AL making the turbo chirp like that. Sounds great but as noted, its likely getting hammered w/all those pops & bangs |
Thanks for the reply. I have heard of the Anti Lag system before, but by what you're telling me, its not for long term use, so I guess it won;t make its way to the consumer market?
