This can't be happening
Well do an oil change on the Evo saturday night to get ready to go to Baltimore. Everything good. Car is purring like a kitten. Get half to Baltimore on Sunday and boom.... heard something let go in the motor and what seems to be rod know. Car is running fine, no smoke or anything just has some power loss and the knock. Goes away when you your off the gas totally and goes away when you get on boost. So I limp back home to drop the car at the dealership. Today rolls around and I call the dealership to find out if they can find anything wrong with the car. Well suspected rod knock as what I thought... great. Oh well covered under warrenty no biggee. Well I was wrong. Come to find out which no one told me you have to keep ALL receipts for any type of work done on the car. Well I'm missing 3 receipts for bought oil so they won't cover it under warrenty so far. Been calling all over the place to figrue out what I can do cause this is crap. I baby the crap out of this car. Oil change every 3000k if not earlier and now not even a year later the car goes down. PLus they want to replace the whole short block so estimated charges are around $5200. Of course can't do the work myself and save me alot of money cause that will void the warrenty also. So the moral of the story.... MAKE SURE TO KEEP ALL RECORDS OF EVERYTHING ON THESE CARS. If anybody knows anything to call or what not please let me know. I'm getting ready to write the state congress and everything to get this resolved.

so you mean to tell me that if i change my own oil the dealer wont cover for something blowing up?
sound like you need to go see another dealer. |
When you buy oil and filters, use a credit card. That way there is always a record of what service items you purchased for your car.
But I think that your dealership is giving you the run around. PRess on them a bit more and show them that you performed your due diligence by attempting to keep a receipt record of your oil changes. They can't realistically refuse you for one or 2 missing receipts. There is nowhere in your warranty that states that if you do not keep record of your maintencance, your warranty will not be honored! SC~ |
OOOOOohhhhh......Sounds like a Project Car in the making.......
|
i had read somewhere that they can not void a warrenty for not doing oil changes at the dealership. do a search it somewhere in this site.
anyway not to leave this out, but this is Bull****, stupid stealership. goodluck but keep the pressure on them. |
they have to fix it,that is bull ****!!!!!!
|
they have to prove some oil change ****ed up the car...
|
That dealer is just trying to screw you. I got Mits. to buy my car back after almost a year without showing any evidence that i did any maintenance at all. My question is what caused the rod knock? Did it have something to do with your oil change or was it something that would have happened regardless. Because unless the engine starved for oil I don't see what relevance your oil change has to mitsubishi.
|
Well I have gone to 2 different dealers and they both said the same thing. Its not the fact that you have to use the dealer to change the oil or anyone else. Its that you have to show proof you bought the oil if your changing it yourself. I'm supposed to hear back from the distrcit manager in a day or 2 and I will keep everyone posted. Oh and credit card records won't help unless it gives you a break down of what you bought with each purchase. They have to see proof that you bought the oil. I also contacted Mitsu headquarters and they have a case on it to so we will see what happens.

How much drained out when you changed the oil? Were you low?
|
EVL_VIII, you have my sympathies man. Unfortunately, for something this big, they do have to look in to it. Like I said in my FAQ thread, it's not that they don't want to help you, it's just that it's going to cost them a small fortune if the claim is dismissed. Good luck on this, though.

Hotrod.... I totally agree with you. I have worked on tons of DSM and Stealths/3000Gt's and have never seen rod knock unless the car doesn't have enough oil in it (unless your just being stupid with mods and surprising there are alot of people out there). But they don't agree and rods can go because of old oil (yeah maybe in 60k miles or so). As for my oil change typical as usual. Mitsu filter and Mobile one Syn 10w30. Same as I run in my TT stealths and never had a problem.

Roughly around 4 3/4 quarts. I still got the oil in the drain pan but somewhere around there. And Graeme, I can understand looking into this but the oil is abotu a 100 miles old. I'm sorry but pulling the dip stick out and then putting it back in and telling me the warrenty is not going to cover this cause I don't have records is bull****. They can at least attempt to look at the situation and drain the oil to test or what else but of course that has to be at MY cost for any additional work then pulling a dip stick.
|
So what's your attack plan? I'm hoping you'll take this as far up as necessary to get it fixed under warranty.
|
Oh I'm going to as far as I can. I'm waiting to see what the district manager says and if not then I'm going to get in contact with a lawyer plus I want to get a hold of PA state representive for consumer laws cause I have heard alot of times they will step into this type of situation to help get votes and keep the people happy. But I will not go down without a fight thats for sure. On the up side I can get a brand new short block for from a different dealer $1800 and the gasket kit for $200. Kinda wierd when my dealer quoates me $2850 for the short block alone.
