guys wasnt sure if this has been posted yet but Mitsu realeased this statement yesterday about EVO warranty claims:

Hmmmm....interesting good find. I am taking my car to the dealer this week to see if they will fix my gear synchros under warrenty. Good find!

Although I take it with a grain of salt, I consider the comments to be a reasonable stance, and honestly, this follows closely with how my dealer has treated my car with its modifications.

You seriously can't expect the warranty to cover your engine if you've increased your boost, tuned your air/fuel mixture, etc.. Though they would have to prove without question that the modifications caused the particular failure.

Since I work with my dealer, have a good relationship, and both the service department and myself have an open mind, I've never had issues with warranty service. In fact, the only issues they have are with cars coming in with problems and very low mileage, to them, those are factors indicative of abuse (we all know that this isn't always the case) but I've got over 20k on my OE tires, Brakes, clutch.. Let me also add that I've only had 1 warranty related issue which was covered with no problems.. PLUS my car is significantly modified (easy to tell visually that its modified too) and it has never been an issue.

Not trying to be devils advocate here.. But more often than not, we end up being the source of our own problems.. Just establish a respectful relationship with the service department, and they will be your ally in getting your car covered under warranty if its possible.. **THEY** Get paid for the work regardless, in fact, they usually get more if its covered under warranty.. If your confrontational, nasty, impatient, or ignorant, things will just not go your way.

The whole issue
 

Its the whole issue of "related to racing" that I'm worried about. Racing in an organized event (for example the SCCA) is much more safe than on the street, which by a simple 'hit-the-gas' manuver can have you in a 'street race.'

FWIW an SCCA event doesn't put much more stress on the componetry of the EVO than say, making an emergency manuver to save your life! Try driving an EVO in the wintertime and glorifying the AWD because you just kept somebody from plowing into you!

While I agree with everything the new announcement says...the "related to racing" is still a really bad undefined term, and Mitsu is using it to claim "abuse" on stock EVOs.

On the pro-Mitsu side, I like that they indicate 'serious' modification, giving a bit of leeway to do 'some' modifications on the EVO.

Yeah...I don't want the warranty to be voided by putting on a clearbra on or something. :lol:

But...where do you draw that line? Should the dealers individually have that authority?

So does this mean that there are competitive events that MMNA does not consider to be racing? Is there going to be an autocross loophole?

'Printing started". Will keep this in my car. I'm glad they will give us the "benefit of the doubt" and can't void the whole warantee, only related parts that may have been caused by mods. If you mod your car correctly with reliable parts, there should be no problem.

It is contradictory to say that you don't have a bot on the forums but you answer to it anyway. Ok, they don't have a bot, but they ARE reading the forums. I don't think this release goes farr enough to stop the jackasses at the lower levels from illigally voiding warrantys.

that hole thing is BS, they denied warrenty on one of our members who has a stock evo.... but blew 2 pistons...f-mmca

Printing this article now...excellent find. The only thing that gets me is this:

Does that leave the dealer in the position to say that..."oh well you have such and such a mod and that could prove unreliable later on down the road so we can't grant you warranty work"?

"benefit of the doubt" ?????!!!!! Thats the biggest piece of **** I have heard.

When my clutch started to slip at 1k miles, they tried to deny me warranty, in fact.. the District manager automatically said it was caused by abuse, the stock clutch was tested by some tuner and it was very strong, so it had to be me. The car was still in break-in for god sakes. Luckily, my dealer went behind his back and offered to replace the clutch if I would pay for an aftermarket clutch (they new I wanted one anyways).

Most important aspect to getting warranty, is to find a good dealer who is understanding and reasonable. MMNA will not give you the benefit of the doubt. The DM told me that MMNA will not take back any clutches from EVOs for warranty. The dealer told me that they were getting a lot of crap from Corporate when they tried to send back a faulty clutch.

Only time will tell.....I doubt anything has changed.

Funny, I get "cannot find server" when I hit the link. Wonder if they are modifying the site or getting clobbered. Anybody else having this problem?
