Doesn't say anything about excluding the Evo...

July 2, 2004 -- Cypress, Calif. -- Mitsubishi Motors North America today announced the addition of a five-year/60,000 mile "bumper-to-bumper" new vehicle limited warranty that provides the company with an industry-leading offer for its customers - the "best-backed car" 10-year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, three-year/45,000 mile free maintenance policy and five-year/60,000 mile "bumper-to-bumper" limited warranty. The new warranty announcement, made as the company launches its "Best-Backed Cars in the World" summer sales event, applies to new Mitsubishi Motors model year 2004 vehicles purchased or leased in the United States starting July 1, 2004.

"We now have the best-backed products in the industry," said Ian Beavis, senior vice president, product planning, marketing and public relations. "You won't find another competitor so confident in its products and quality that it can offer this peace-of-mind package to customers."

The newly added five-year/60,000 mile "bumper-to-bumper" new vehicle limited warranty covers major vehicle systems, which include defects in materials and workmanship.

This "bumper-to-bumper" limited warranty is in addition to the 10-year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty announced in January 2004 on all new Mitsubishi Motors vehicles. The 10-year/100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty covers the repair or replacement of covered powertrain components - from engine to transfer case. The three-year/45,000 free maintenance policy is a "no worries" plan that includes recommended maintenance service, such as oil and filter changes as well as tire rotation. This free maintenance program previously applied to only select models, but now has been expanded to include all models sold in July and August 2004.

"This unprecedented backing of our products speaks to our long-term commitment to our customers," Beavis said. "It also is reflective of the tremendous strides Mitsubishi Motors has made in vehicle quality improvements, including those vehicles supplied from our U.S. manufacturing facility. This has allowed us to confidently stand behind the products we sell today, as well as those we'll be selling well into the future."

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) is responsible for all manufacturing, finance, sales, marketing, research and development operations of the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Mitsubishi Motors sells coupes, convertibles, sedans and sport utility vehicles through a network of nearly 750 dealers throughout North America. It includes the Evo because I just purchased mine yesterday and it included the new warranty.

Scottybob Jul 2, 2004 03:00 PM

talk about a great incentive not to mod. Mitsu might be on to something.

NoTec Jul 2, 2004 03:07 PM

Still means nothing to evo owners as the warranty will be voided for any and every reason.

SpecVSpeed Jul 2, 2004 03:09 PM

Damn, bought mine on June 20th...........that pisses me right off.......however.....I did go in yesterday because they made a mistake on the purchase contract and I signed a new one......does that count as July 1st purcahse date???????? Hmmmmmmm...............

Stockfornow... Jul 2, 2004 03:10 PM

Looks good on paper...but try using it.

but the 10year/100,000mi warranty doesnt cover the Evo, so doesnt that automatically exclude the evo from this warranty since it is addition to the 10yr/100k?

theres a dealership by me that had '04 Evo..$24,995 w/ 10yr/100K in the newspaper ad (but i dont believe its true)

eclipsegs2k1 Jul 2, 2004 08:21 PM

let's hope it includes the Evo!! It seems like it does though, thanks for the information.

hmmm... Lee Iococa did the same thing to crystler when he started to turn them around...

this could be a good thing.

Now if we can get the dealers to be more flexible on the warrentee claims, then IMHO, it would complete the package.

HoLeeRay Jul 3, 2004 07:01 AM

I am getting more and more excited about buying my '05 evo..

You sure they'll use Mobil 1 for the free oil changes?

I have to agree with Stockfornow. This looks great on paper. Has anyone here had Mitsu cover a major repair under the current warranty?

g6civcx Jul 3, 2004 07:04 PM

Why extend the warranty? Why not start honouring the one you have?

SoR Jul 3, 2004 07:10 PM

I saw the ad on the TV today. They don't have Evo in it

Yes indeed...I watch my mechanic do every oil change. He insists that I come in every 1,500 miles because it free with the extreme conditions warranty/performance package... {thumbup}
