How to Remove Alternator

My alternator just went out, and after reading the manual, it says I need to jack up the engine in order to get it out. Is there an easier way?

Mine went out, and you have to take it out from the bottom. We lowered the downpipe, took out the axel, and half-shaft, then it fell out. it is a BEEATCH to do on a driveway. we tried, unsussesfully, and had to take it to a friends to where we could use his lift.

I just did mine in my driveway out the top. Not too bad but not easy. You have to remove a lot of little stuff. See attached pic. I also unbolted the motor mount by the cams and it helped to create some clearance.
