someone put in 5 quarts after their initial 4 quarts. that's what i did with the normal lancer also. put 4 in, start the engine a little let it run for a bit so the oil gets distributed over the engine, and then add another quart.

EDIT: i forgot, just check to see if u have enough..4 should be good though.

It's vertical, see picture for details. The screw is for draining the oil.

gasket doesn't really leek if reused as long as the oil change has been done correctly. I've change several mitsubishi's filters a numberous times on the same vehicles never had one leek. But yes those gaskets are "intended" to be changed at everyoil change. The oil filter part number is MD356000

Here's some food for though from a LONG time turbo owner....

When I replace the oil filter (change oil) I fill the new filter with oil before screwing it on. This will help to minimize the time the motor, turbo are without oil. The position of the EVO filter will make this REAL easy!

Another thought...it surprises me that manufacturers are putting synthetics in from new. The general though in the past has been placing mineral oil in the car during break-in was a better policy. I bought a new BMW that had synth's in it from factory, my EVO, of course, does also. Is the idea of no synthetics during break-in a myth? Synth's extend break in requirements?

reason for the synthetic from the factory is:

A: These motors are pre-broken in, meaning they have been ran before installed, they have to have been broken in before they were installed.
B: This is a high perfprmance car and they use the synthetic as a super lubricant, care does run at high temps and is designed to be ran for long periodsd of time.

PS yes auto parts stores have filters, same filter as the eclipse according to those stores, but why would you buy them?.........

I just paid $1.50 per crush washer at my dealer. They're not even copper like someone mentioned. Are they supposed to be that expensive?

Why did you buy them from a dealer?..... Theres your first mistake. Just go to an autoparts store and but one that is the same size as the stock one.

Just a matter of convenience. I wanted a mitsu filter and I figured the washers were like 10 cents each. But $1.50??

The clerk was a weirdo too. I asked why it costed so much but he just goes, "hrmmp" and continued to stare at his monitor while the computer took like 5 minutes to boot up.
