AEM Short Ram Tips / Nightmares
AEM Short Ram Tips / Nightmares
Just installed the intake. You can now hear the BOV and the turbo spool up. Very nice and noisy. Took me 4 hours to do and I had to improvise in many situations. The intake box was not meant to be dismantled. Once you try to take out the screwws that hold the Mass Air Flow Sensor you break off the plastic wedges that hold the bolts on the inside. Then the bolts just spin around and you have to take off the plastic around the bolts to get a wrench to hold it in place. This happened on three of the four bolts. After that you can try taking the Mass Air Flow Sensor Plug out. I could not figure out how to do it and was scared I would break it. It is not necessary to unplug it. Then You take out the rest of the intake assembly and start to add in the AEM parts. Seems like the parts fit ok yet the BOV is a pain to set in back in the hose. AEM only supplies one clamp for it. If it fit perfectly then you would not need two. Luckily I had a hardware store up the street. They only cost a buck. The intake rests near the sidewall with a rubber mount under a metal mount. AEM did not supply a nut to go on the top of the bolt to secure the mount. SO I will go find a nut tomorrow I guess. The motor bay is very compact so you should use a variety to screwdrivers of different lengths. Also you need a ratchet with regular and deep sockets to fit in the akward spaces. You will have fun trying to get the BOV to stay in place with only one hose clamp. Go buy a second clamp 3/4 to 1-3/4 inch adjustable. Car feels more responsive yet I tested it to 100MPH on a stretch and it was even with the stock intake. This is one of those mods that needs tuning or other mods to make it work.
