evo 8 ssl sunroof issue

one day my sunroof started acting strange and i cant figure out why or what it is.
normally you can just tap the button back and it will open all the way automatically but now i have to sit there and hold the switch down to open it.
then to close it it moves in 2 inch increments and you have to keep hitting the button over and over to close it and the push in to tilt doesnt work at all.
anyone have this trouble?
what fixes it?

nobody knows huh?

Sounds like a faulty switch. Have you noticed any other strange electrical problems?

03evoslowtion Feb 25, 2010 01:50 AM

i have the exact same problem. its the tracks. and its blowin the circuit breaker in the switch cause it to turn off and then back on.

03evoslowtion Feb 25, 2010 01:50 AM

the switch is fine these another problem maybe a clip or something caught up in the sliders.

adcgn45 Feb 25, 2010 01:00 PM

well that doesnt explain why the tilt button doesnt work at all. does your do that too?

03evoslowtion Feb 25, 2010 06:37 PM

my tilt doesn't work either sometimes not all the time tho. my roof got dented and ever since i tried to move the sunroof and i heard a clip snap that button has been messing up ever since. i dont really care to much to look into it tho b/c im gettin a carbon roof panel soon.

up top weight is the worst weight!

im not feelin the clip loose being a reason. it moves smoothly just in increments and a jam wont explain the way the button acts. any other ideas?

Mine does it as well but its caused by the weather stripping is old and is popped up and catching on the top

On a BMW that means it lost its initialization. (its stop points)

Lubrication is what it needs. If the seal is very dry (use Armor all) it will stick. Also clean the track and lube the mechanisms.....it should free up a lot

THIS is the correct answer. I forgot how to get it re initialized. Let me see what I can dig up.

That's the problem. I fixed it. Thanks guys. You just have to open it all the way then inch it forward until it closes. When it's fully closed hold the button forward. For 3 sec and everything will be initialiAzed.
